I need to replace the fuel lines on an S2 Avant and was thinking of replacing the whole lot with braided lines, has anyone done this before? Are there any reasons not to?
As far as I've found I'll need AN fittings, does anyone have details of which fittings are required?
Also an approximate length overall of hose? 8mm feed and return?
I've just done mine in 8mm copper, not too difficult. I think the issue with using braided is the bit that runs up into the engine bay next to the exhaust. The original lines have a heat proof wrapping at the point where they get close to the exhaust and I don't think braided would tolerate the heat.
I used my old lines as a template, taping the copper to it as I went along making the bends. I got my local agricultural engineer friend to do the flares for me and bought new pipe nuts on ebay. Hopefully Alex is doing me a new short piece that runs from the filter top to the feed line (high pressure part). The other bits i have replaced around the tank and filler neck are quite easy. You can get the plastic nylon pipe used around the tank from a diesel fuel specialist.

If you need to replace the bits around the tank, filler neck and filter, let me know as these are all a different size/material. Took me ages to find the bits but think I am almost there (with help from Error 404).

Just make sure you use Teflon coated braided lines as if you use rubber you will smell the petrol btdt, and p clips to hold the hose AN-8 is what I’ve used because of the power I’m going for but if your not chasing big bhp I would think AN-6 would be ok for your needs. Tonks4x4 has a thread on fuel line replacement also he routed his lines on left I believe all best michael
im runing a an6 from pump in tank and out under the tank, i could not get a an 8 up pass the tank. maybe im just that skilled. then i did bypass the filter(removed it) and ran an8 all the way up to my fuel filter up in the engine bay. and from that to the rail. im using the stock return line btw.. it will flow past 600 hp wih a walbro 450 intank pump.. i cant smell any fuel what so ever on mine
One last question, was thinking AN-6 would be sufficient for feed and return with a ~8mm ID but won't the ID be reduced on the fittings? So would AN-8 be a better bet?
Will post details when finally get around to doing the job.
remember couoe and avant is not the same i did go an 6 past the tank and the an8.. i could not find the room to fit an8 all the way past the tank and under the pump cover. without cutting. maybe you can i dont know..
I have AN-6 on the avant from the tank to under the car following the line of the original lines so far, there's plenty of room the rest of the way. A larger diameter would be very tight down the side of the fuel tank I think.

Any chance to have the size an to oem sizes of the tank exit and fuel filter in and out please?
