  • Feeling sorry for you!
BTW , it's a really nice car and it seems that you invested a lot in it so don't give up

One small bit of good news is that the crank has been checked and is OK. Just need to start work on another block. FML

        • Time for an update with a bit of a positive spin to it! The car went off to Brian Tonk’s place the other month to have some work done on it, namely, ABY battery box installed, Vacuum servo fitted, ABS unit re-located and engine bay re-painted.

          Here’s the engine bay before

          Hole to be plated up!

And here’s after Tonk’s magic wand had worked it wonders

ABS unit re-located to the firewall

          Vacuum servo installed

          Battery tray installed

          Hole welded up

I’m also going to put a vent from a T4 van in the wing to feed to air filter, so the inner wing has been cut out to allow cool air in

          • Also part of the plan is to replace all the fuel line with teflon stainless braided AN6 lines, and they;re going to be run down the passenger side rather than the drivers side so this mean relocating the fuel filter.

            Part for the job

Before I painted the battery tray I welded a plate on the side to strengthen it so I could mount the filter on it

Then made a mounting from aluminium

            Bolted in place

            And fitted

Welded some adaptors onto the standard fuel line to convert them to an AN fitting

And finally got the correct fitting to conver the fuel tank to AN

And I've also welded a new oil drain onto the sump so the breather system will drain into this rather than into the Fumoto valve

I got all the fittings from this place on Ebay

Great to deal with, fast delivery and not too pricey

Getting there, it's way harder that stainless though!

I bought a cast inlet manifold off Ebay the other day, Rover 200 £9 delivered I'm going to cut it up and use it for practice on cast stuff.

                      • Impressive . My inner wing went in the same spot , although not as bad as yours

Nice work on converting the fuel lines too.
                        Very neat.

                          • I was at Brian Tonks last night and forum member Farmerphil came up with a good theory as to why/how the block had cracked. I know the block came from an engine that has snapped it's cam belt and bent all the valves, if this had happened so number 3 piston took the brunt of the impact, could it have over stressed the number 4 main bearing, even starting a small crack which just continued to spread as I used it.

Sounds plausable to me, your thoughts??

                            • In my opinion ....
                              I don't think so mate
I have seen several engines with 60+mph Cambelt failures and unless you have had rods bent and pistons destroyed including cylinder head chance of crack in block is unlikely
Other components are there first to give/bend/brake first before block damage
However we will never know for sure in your case mate

                              • Ripped from another website....

                                Overpowering

Overpowering engine blocks to the point of destruction was once fairly rare, but the explosion in popularity of aftermarket turbocharging/supercharging (a.k.a. "forced induction") and nitrous oxide (N2O) injection makes this a very real possibility for enthusiasts looking for more power. Before these technologies came to dominate the marketplace, engine horsepower was generally limited by the connecting rod's ability to withstand breaking at high RPM. Forced induction and nitrous work by increasing power throughout the engine's entire RPM range, making engine block strength the limiting factor. Stress-related cracking usually occurs in the area surrounding the engine's main crankshaft caps, known as the "webs." The webs act as a mounting point for the main caps, which secure the crankshaft to the block and bear most of the abuse.
