Great work on the car. Very good tip with the denso tape. Its something my old man uses on his vintage cars.

About the dense tape I was told that though it works it's very flammable. Not that anything around that area would be likely to be close to high heat or spike but for peace of mind I never used it. Just lots of copper grease

Just about everything on your car is flammable, but googleing the MSDS for copper grease and Denso tape reveals that the tape has a flash point 20°C lower than copper grease, 180 Vs 200, so unless you wrap the exhaust in it there won't be a problem

Well from the looks of it my car will soon be going to somewhere warmer where these things like rot and rust don't exist!

I bought some Denso tape on your recommendation and then read A80avant's comment. I'm pleased to read your above comment i needn't fear my purchase of denso tape after all. It's a great idea!

Even though they are listed as used in 996's I had to cut of these 'ears' to get them to fit.

I've only done about 20miles so far but initial findings are that they've got loads more bite from cold compared to the DS2500's, I'll report back on high speed findings once they're bedded in.
Now that I've done some miles on these and they're properly bedded in, I'm more convinced than ever that they are the way to go for a road car. They really seem to 'bite' the disc both hot and cold, where as the DS2500 just felt like they were rubbing until really hot. If you go on track, stick with the DS2500, but for road use get these

What are they like for dust and damage to rims? Amazing what some pads do to rims....

                    I had the DS2500 on my RS4.
I disagree with the fact that you need them really hot.

They are not worse than the original brake pads when first braking. Maybe a tiny wee bit.
But whereas after braking 2 times hard the original ones just go soft and do not do anything, these just keep getting better and better...

I think DS2500 are a very good choice and are 100% streetable. Even in -20C cold winter.
The only downside is that they usually are somewhat noisy and will screech a bit in certain pedal positions, whereas the OEM pads were totally quiet.

Much less dust and no sign of damage, I cleaned the wheels today and they came up like new.

While I was fitting the rear KW's I couldn't bear to re-fit these scabby onld ABS wire brackets

So I made some new ones out of 316 stainless

                        Looking much better!

Also changed the oil and fitted a slightly larger filter

                            Good fabbing!

Also interested in the oil filter details. I know we can fit a 1.8t filter (which is larger than stock) and just learned today from my brother (1.8t Jetta GLI guy) that there's an oversize filter from a van that's longer.

Would be nice to have options!

                                TIG set is this one:-

The TIG 201 AC/DC 200Amp Inverter TIG Welder features HF microstart, AC squarewave adjustment to 250hz, pulse welding, slope up/down, LED display and a high 60% duty cycle at 200 amps. Includes FREE TIG torch, earth, MMA lead, regulator, R-Tech Pro remote foot pedal worth £142 and a 3 year warranty!

The filter is from a Volvo/VW Transport and as it was only a £1 more than the std filter I thought I'd see if it fits, which it does, just. Much bigger filter area and an extra 0.5ltr of oil capacity.

                                http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mann-Oil-F...AAAOSwX6VTyj6d

If you wait until they have one of their sales, you can pick them up for about £4!
