    Oil overfill

    Evening guys (& gals)
Finally took my S2 out today after nearly two months of not driving it! due to being away and having to replace the radiator. Anyway, thanks to the forum, the radiator change was a successful one .

However, whilst I was out the oil warning light came on. I pulled over, checked the level and it's quite high.
Does the oil light come on for the sump being too full as well as too low or is it the oil pressure sender that's gone?

The level is about 2mm above the top fill line so I'm not so worried about it but it is spitting a few specs out the exhaust so bit concerned about the cats.
Is there any simple way of draining a little oil as I've just paid for £40 worth of silkolene to be put in there for my service.
When I changed the oil last year I remember there wasn't a point where the oil was just slowly draining out as I undid the plug. It just poured out.

Anyway, hopefully I'll get this sorted soon as I'm really missing driving it.

    Thanks

    Dan

The light is supposed to come on if the oil pressure drops but there could be a fault with the sender switch or the wiring, what is the gauge doing ?
IMHO I wouldn't worry about the 2mm over the top mark, it will use it up eventually. The black spitting from the exhaust is probably condensation and will clear when the car gets a good run.

        Cool, thanks guys.

Just run the car at idle up to about 95degC engine temp, 65DegC oil temp. Oi pressure started off way off the scale (roughly 6 Bar) but once warm, the pressure settled to it's usual 2.5 Bar.
Put a peice of white cardboard behind the exhaust and all that is spitting out now is condensate.

I did mine recently too, and had oil warning lights, I had disturbed the wiring to the sender units (they are both in the vicinity if you remember)
Try and get your hand in and check the connections are there, or just a wobble might work...!

Ah, that could be a reason then!
I took care to make sure I replaced all the connections during the radiator replacement that had to be unplugged but may have missed one or not plugged it back in properly.
If it keeps happening then I'll get back in there.

            the joys of S2 ownership!

Assuming you didn't remove the oil filler cap whilst changing the oil, then it "pouring" out rather then "glugging" out is a good sign that your breather system is in a healthy condition .
Oil glugging out tends to show that you have a blockage in the breather system somewhere.

No, I didn't remove the cap. Nice to know that it's clean and clear then!
                Cheers Jas.

                    What oil are you using?
I thought 2 Bar was seen as low but I'm no expert.

2bar is fine for a hot idle... Expect a full guage when the engine is cold.

I bet you have distrubed the sender wiring - it is easy to mix up the signal wires and of course you may just have a bad connection made worse with the maintenance.

Oh and Jas thats a good tip with regards oil 'glugging' from the sump - where did you pick that one up ? Kinda smells right though !

The culprit of the dreaded 'beep beep beep' is the high pressure oil sender. just checked the terminals of the low pressure one and they were fine, then checked the white wire coming out of the high pressure sender and it pulled straight out of the rubber boot. There's no way I'm taking out the radiator again as it's taken me ages to put back in and bled. I'm now trying to remove the electric water pump from it's mounts (think that's what it is) to try and get access from that side.
Fairly ****** off with this but at least i know that the car is not gonna seize on me and that the oil warning light is coming on for a faulty reason rather than a genuine one!

Also took the car out for the first time since I connected up that diff lock pipe, cleaned the MAF and reset the ECU.
This might be my imagination but the car pulls a lot smoother now (wasn't bad before).

                            Cheers
