Sounds like tappets or chain? But could be loose cambelt slapping against cambelt cover??

      Definitely sounds metallic
It’s only there as the revs decrease
      Cambelt was done recently

How is your oil pressure? Difficult to say listening to sound recorded by a small device playing on a small device but I hate to say it but; knocking on overrun is a symptom of big end bearings.

I hope you can tell me I'm wrong!

Sorry, but not overly familiar with the turbo lumps, but does this one have a dumpy dizzy in it?

Oil pressure is good, can’t hear it when driving either

It started life as a 3B so yes it’s got a dizzy but I’m only using the hall sensor signal as it’s now on coilpacks.

It might be play in the dizzy drive though, I will listen with a screwdriver

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... Sounded very familiar.

If it wasnt there before fitting the cam belt then it's got to be relative to what's been removed & replaced. Check timing as well....

Sounds like it could be a loose pulley. More rattle on overrun when tension comes off one of the belts?

Had a listen with the ol “screwdriver stethoscope“
Really sounds like it’s inside the cam cover.

I don’t think it’s the dizzy as it’s not so loud listening near the back and I don’t have a loose plug. Think it might be a really bad hydraulic tappet.

Really hope it will be as simple as that .You could try fresh thicker oil .I have done it on my old 5cyl 10valve KV engine and it made the tappet quiet. You could try it for diag purpose

"Oil pressure is good, can’t hear it when driving either" that's good then.

I've given up trying to get my distributor to be quiet, I've shimmed it so minimal play, fitted brass gear which helped a bit and neither stopped it completely. Does it more around 1700-2000rpm on the run down from revs. I guess wear on the cam gear may contribute but that's not easily sorted...
