Big boost spikes, whitch garage to use?

Hi i'm still getting boost spikes, i've changed all the small diamiter hoses that look dodgy, i've fitted the ic mod hose. I bought a remapped ecu and waste gate with stronger spring (was set to 1.1 bar by previous owner) (fitted this incase my diaphram was split). After doing this i'm still getting boost spikes the only big isue now (after fitting ecu) is insted of the ecu switching to lhm when the boost exceeds 1.5 bar the boost keeps riseing it goes of the scale on the boost guage (2 bar max reading) as it has 3bar external map sensor. Put the car into the audi dealership befour i fitted the wg and ecu to find out the problem, they charged me 70quid for them to wash my car and give me a pice of paper saying unable to test as the car is modified with dump valve and k&n filter. Theres no after market dv on the car the sound they here is the air blowing back through filter and i dont think having a k&n fitted would make no odds lol.
So does any one know a garage in scotland or neer the boarders that would be able to help me out?
    Thanks
    Gordy

    Remapped for what?
I think that's your problem. A stiffer spring won't cure any problems. That is most likely the original cause of your boost spikes.

Do NOT waste your time by taking an S2 to your local dealership for any diagnostic work - they have no clue - and much of the technical info required to do anything is not generally available on their computerised system... Lots of new dealers/franchises will not have any history on the Audi 80/90/S2 models.

You are miles away from the recommended specialists I know of - likes of Corey and MRC for example, but it will be well worth the journey - they have much more knowledge than your average dealership.

To be honest with the mods you have partly done it sounds best to me to get it all back to standard setup first of all and ensure you have no boost leaks. Then get a decent set of chips in there if you need more oomph. If you have an ABY engine then you can talk to me about the popular 'homefries' upgrade, but MRC will also be the perfect lads to custom remap your engine if you like.

Bought the ecu and wg with stiffer spring from a guy that had it listed on ebay (ended it early for me). He said that the car it came from had after market exhaust and k&n filter as it's only mods (like mine) so bought it lol. Only fitted the wg and ecu as i wasn't sure if my origonal (standard spring) wg diaphram was split.
I've been getting this problem since i bought the car unfortuneately it was intermitent when i bought the car and never showed up on test drive.
Also forgot to mention that in 3rd gear and above the boost drops of to as little as 0.4 bar at times
When i first bought the car all that had been done is K&n cone, scorpion exhaust and decat pipes, and had this problem then.
Oh should have mentioned its a 3b

Using unknown chips from Ebay sounds dodgy. I would try to get the car back to stock and go from there.
You probably have a boost leak. If you haven't already got a pressure test kit then I recommend you get one. AndyP might be able to get you one. They are easy to use, and no S2 owner should be without one IMO.

I must say I can't really see the logic. If you think the wastegate diaphram is split, then why not replace that, rather than jam a stiffer spring in the wastegate.

wher did you take the car Aberdeen/Inverness?, might be worth a trip to Cameron's in Perth, they should still be able to 'talk' to it irrespective of any mods to the ecu, as others have indicated you may well still have a boost leak/s

Or maybe the WGFV is sticking.

I already had these faults b4 fittin ecu and wg, didn't just jam a stiffer spring in hoping to sort the problem, i just replaced the entire wg with the one i had with the stiffer spring, if i didn't have the wg with bigger spring would have just ordered a new diaphram and replaced that, it was just fitted to elimenate tat it wasn't the diaphram.
Can't return the car to standard as i don't have the standard exhaust and air box, and imo i don't think an exhaust and filter would make any difference to this prob.
Andy, yes that's the ecu, might give them a phone thanks
The car was put in to audi in inverness with at the time the only mods were filter and exhaust and was told could not be diognosed due to modifications so not really keen traveling over a hundred miles to be charged 70 quid for just another car was I know i depends on if someone in the dealership is gened up on it or not but would rather not risk it thanks any way for the sugestion

I think you should remove the uprated wg spring and put the standard one back! Then see what happens. 1.5bar is right on if not over the limit of the standard turbo. I've had a similar problem to what you have described. My car was fitted with a very stiff wg spring and even with the stock boost chip I'd see up to 1.6 on the boost guage. NOT GOOD!!! I reckon your mapped ecu may be set for the standard spring and could be adding to the mechanical boost set by the uprated spring which is why your boost is now off the scale! Remove that spring now before you blow the lot up!!

No. The exhaust and air filter shouldn't be a problem. It sounds like Inverness Audi were fobbing you off with BS.

What I meant by putting the car back to stock, was make sure you've got a stock WG spring, stock chips and no funny boost controllers, like a bleed valve.

When you've done that, get the blink codes from the ECU, that may tell you where there is a fault. If you don't know how to do that, get yourself a 12V LED and follow the intructions on s2central:

                      What the codes mean...

I second to that. However have no idea, how it can stick, but it's worth to check, what's there. 0.4 bar is when WGFV is open, 1.6 bar, when it's closed. Best way to check it is to swap with known good one.

Would it be an idea to replace the stock spring, and then unplug the WGFV? You should then see 0.4-0.5bar MAX and would know that the problem was either the map, or the WGFV and go from there. That's assuming there is no wierd plumbing/boost controller etc that be causing issues.

Thanks for all the info guys, i'm in the middle of the north sea atm so whenever i get home i'll pull the ecu and put stock one back in along with changing back to standard wg spring, do a blink code test then take it from there. Was kinda hopeing to find a garage to put it to as it's doing my head in lol
I too believe that audi were feeding me bs lol, had the car into them b4 coz of the brake warning light coming on if you pump the peddle, they told me they thought it was a short in the loom somewhere causing it to give me a low break pad reading (no charge that time, but car never got washed lol) i thought that was bs so started looking on the net and found out it was my accumulater
So any way thanks again i'll do a blink code test and check the wgfv if that dont help i'll get a leak tester and take it from there. Will let you know how i get on
                              Thanks
