In my experience - scotchlocks are just fine for quick/emergency repairs and the like. I wouldn't use them for a permanent installation of any sort as I've had grief with them in the past. They are a great time saving measure - which is why the 'professional alarm installers' love them. Its just one reason why I would NEVER let anyone else carry out electrical work on any car belonging to me !

When i got my clifford put in the guy took 2 days to try and remove the old alarm and gave up, Because of the old alarm the clifford won't do total closure. The old alarm has similar wiring properties to yours lots of tape and scotchlocks.

I've just never seen a Scotchlok that works reliably. I would never use one.

Okay thanks for the replies chaps. So I assume Bullet crimp connectors are what a pro auto electrician would use then?

A WELL soldered joint covered in heatshrink rubber tubing is the most reliable joint you will get IMHO. With crimped connectors there is always room for a bad connection...With a well soldered joint this is much less likely (although over the passage of time dry joints can occur of course)

                    Oh..........

Right so i get the time to inspect and replace the ignition switch

I find the switch is damaged and contiune to be confident that this should solve the non starting problem.
Replace the switch and find that its even worse
So have a little look about behind the ignition switch and lock barrel, not a lot going on.

I stuck my finger into the ignition switch to find it very sharp
(Lesson never stick you fingers into dark holes )

The end of the barrel has snaped off

                    Pictures.....

                    New switch

                    Old switch
