Bump, anyone got any further advice for this job?

I am going to attempt to change the engine mounts this week for new standard ones. Is this feasible on your own. I have some decent tools, socket sets and extensions etc, plus the front subframe is already off.

    Any BTDT's would be appreciated...

    Cheers,

easy to get to the LH side mount however it will be airbox out and skinned knuckles for the drivers side - thats not an easy one to get to. How you planning to support the engine? Also from memory there are 3 x capheads that bolt the mounts into the block.

I think its actually a major job Steve to be honest, access will be a pain i think

And therein lies the dilemma, I have bought new mounts, but I am not sure there is really anything wrong with the old ones. Plus I thought I was buying the ones that bolt directly to the subframe. (It turns out those are gearbox mounts which I now have on order from Pete! )

I already have the car up on two large axle stands while I do the front subframe and top mounts etc, so supporting the engine on a jack is not difficult. However I am a little reluctant to tackle a difficult job if it is going to be hard to do on my own and probably not really notice a difference. I am happy with my drivetrain as it is, it is solid and I suspect only really needs a new submount to make it perfect.

I think I am slowly talking myself out of this one!

It is a one man job, I've done this job several times during the stroker build, the rad side is easy the drivers side is a pain as you really need a flexible ratchet spanner as the nuts tighten underneath.

All I did was support the engine with a trolley jack and piece of wood under the sump just so it was supporting, you can use it to take the engine higher but be careful if you do this.

Thanks Jamo, I think I will start with the easy side and see if how I get on. I might try and post up some pics if I succeed. It would be nice to have all new mounts throughout the car. (Rear was done two years ago).

            Cheers,

            Fatty.

from past experience, the new mount will be taller than the old one so you will need to lift the engine slightly on the jack when you put the new mount in.

New locknuts are essential I'd say

As per Jamo, its not that bad a job just fiddly. Try taking the front bumper off to get easier access to the turbo side
Bit of old timber a trolley jack gently under the sump.
If you are unlucky the captive bolts in the chassis mounts will become uncaptive, so give them a brush off and a squirt with some GT85 or the like a couple days before, hopefully they'll stay put!

ignore me Steve - for some reason i was thinking of the arms which reach out the the actual mounts. Changing just the mounts wouldn't be so bad but access is still a pig on the drivers side

These are the track spec mounts i supply, machined with a aluminium base and delrin top and hard black anodised.
I am thinking of putting a poly insert into the delrin, to make a slightly softer version.
As these are not for the comfy armchair driver

I would be very very interested in the Poly inserted versions if you do them!, do they fit at the same height as OEM? due to the stroker and reverse manifold I have to be careful of height which is why I cannot use the 034 items
