  • ECU Wiring Harness - Connectors in use

    Hi

Just wondered if anyone has changed out the wiring loom in their car.
Usually when people going for another EFI they make their own harness which is fine but I'm concidering using the original one.

I want to change out the connectors and wiring where it's needed or as much as possible.

Just wondering if anyone has done the same before?

I would like to use some kind of plug-n-play system like autronic, maxx, ecumaster etc. but I want to keep the original harness intact.
This is because the car is going on the road and modifying to another ECU than original means there's a lot of work involved to get this legal.

Wanted to know if anyone has a part list of the connectors used on audi s2 3b.
I can find the parts myself but Im not sure what the specific names are.. like Bosch XXX or similar?

    MaxxEcu plugs straight in.

Car is a 3B though right?
Will you convert to 5 coils? You can do this with pin swap at the ECU connector and a few extra wires. I did it in my 3B. Then I ran ABY ECU for a while before plugging in the Maxxecu.

Yes. know about the plug-n-play system, but is it using original sensors/wires on car or custom wiring? Not sure how good the existing wiring loom is.
Nah, will keep 1 coil, maybe add a MSD unit.

        Uses original sensors and loom.
Otherwise it wouldn’t be “plug and play” would it

If you want to replace or renew sensor connectors most are JT (Junior Timer)

MaxxECU plug-in is a hang-over from MaxxECU V1 so it doesn't have all the factory functions.
I make a proper plug-in for ABY, AAN & ADU or 3B and MaxxECU Race which has ALL of the factory functionality excewpt MAF, plus plug-in wideband, e-throttle, analog In, EGT, DIN etc.

Factory coil on the 3B is better quality than MSD or any of that aftermarket hot-rod junk

I have most of the factory engine-side connectors in stock: most of them are listed: https://www.ultraperformance.co.uk/connectors

This sounds proper. Then I know who to contact.
Because the plug-n-play on original wiring loom seems like the best options, easier to remove when its time for "MOT".

But I still want to over the original cables and connectors, check them and maybe changed them out so it doesn't get any misreading.
Heard that the original wiring loom isn't that bad on the s2's compared to other old cars.

Thanks. It’s been a lot of work.
Got a load more to go on

So regarding the wiring harness, most are in poor condition - what you will find is that the outer sheathing and wire jacketing is brittle and cracked which enables moisture to be wicked into the wire conductors and they are oxidised. This is the main reason most S2 owners are always chasing sensor gremlins and fault codes that come & go at random.

Well the site has so many products I wish I knew about before starting refurbish my car haha But I will put in an order later on.

You dont pr say have a list of all the connectors needed? Like 5 connectors for the fuel injectors, etc etc?
And are all this compatible with lets say example.. MaxxEcu or similiar? Will be going for maxx or ecumaster or similar probably later on.
At least I need it so I can switch it in and out before MOT thats why I thought maybe just changing the sensors, connectors, wiring etc would be a good idea.

                    Hi,
can someone point out the difference ecu wise or in wiring between 3b/aan and aby? ecumaster is selling adapters for 3b/aan but aby is not listed for this.

                    thx in advance

edit: found the answer inside the ecumaster pdf file for this adapter

Other than that ECU connector pin-out, The only real difference is the ignition system and VSS - 3B has only 1 ignition drive and no VSS input.
I wouldn’t use a 3B plug-in, much better ways to control your engine, with very minor modifications to the wiring.

                        connectors.png

Is this the typical connectors being used in the engine bay / wiring harness?

Im struggling to find out what I need , checked ETKA but im not gonna order by VAG part numbers since its $28 pr connectors from certain sites..

Also would need the crimp but Im not sure what is the correct type, anyone?

                        Thanks in advance

There is complete boxes ,, with crimp ,, rubber sealing in the wires from back , and all different sizes. Cheaper with a box set. Some things use these connectors on the car and some does not. You need the rubber sealing ,the long one. Check google a bit. Cant send pictures right now.
