You asked what type they were!

I'd imagine they may well be called a whole load of names - cold air valve, cold idle boost ETC. If it matters to call it the right name, research some diagrams for bosch K jetronic injection and see what bosch call it.

Bosch literature refers to it as an auxilliary-air valve or device.

They are neither, more a warm-up valve than an idle control valve, as there is no "control".

[QUOTE what kind are they ?

They are none of these, they're not for idle, they're not PWM, they're not stepper, they are good old fashioned analogue. As Alex says they are for warm up and during that time they supply extra air which also will cause extra fuel since the fuel flow flapper will be opened more by the extra air flow.

It appears its only the correct name sought

Ah, sorry misunderstood. Auxiliary air regulator or sometimes Auxiliary air valve.

Always known as 'extra air valve' in the land rover world on flapper efi.

Great info ,, so i have to change my idle valve.
Have that on my picture above
                        20210511_114520.jpg
                        I have these 2 ... the left one -0280140524 ..... the right one .. 0280140545.
                        They are both 3pins.
How do i check them if they work before i install and how is the wiring on the pins ?
I supose that you mean that these more of a idle solenoid ?
What brand and what do people buy when building a new engine ?

                        Its a e28 m535 with turbo.

                        Best Regards

Those are idle control valves, PWM driven, three pin has two coils, and potentially more stable than the two pin versions.

They are horrendously expensive to buy new, so doubt any does that, and just rely on second hand stuff.

it depends on your ECU. some support 3 wire pwm, some require non-standard solutions
