    Billman,
Don't worry! The bits you will be using for a stroker, the block and crank will have no durability problems. Having taken this particular engine apart I have noticed that in comparsion to the earlier diesels, it lacks the more durable parts. These include inferior pistons (not reinforced), single valve springs (not double) and the valves are not stellite faced.
None of these effect you, but might have have an impact on the amount of wear/damage an engine suffers. If you have a choice, I would go for the earlier engine.

Just got the crank back. Here is a shot of the reluctor wheel on the last crank web. It has five cutouts for the timing events of the diesel. Not sure what the relationship is. Will try to remember to check during reassembly. Doubt whether its of much use to Motronic users!
