    Wastegate cap BTDT anyone?

    Done a search, but the terms "wastegate" and "cap" brought up so many pages, my eyes started to hurt.

    I want to take the wastegate cap off, two reasons.
    It's gone an awful brown colour that refuses to budge, so want to spray it a nice OEM light grey and also want to change the old rusty nuts and studs for some new SS ones.
    Anything I need to watch out for? is it just a case of undoing each nut a bit at a time?
    I'm not in for a suprise, as a boat load of springs come flying out and embed themselves into my eyes am I?

    Mine now;

    And how it should look new-ish;

    TIA
    Jas..

    stuff may come fling out noting that you wont realise were it goes though leave a few nuts at the top op the thread to stop it flying of and tap it with a hammer to shock it and it should pop of.

            The cap is under spring pressure, you can remove all the nuts, except the last one. Then as you hold the cap undo the last one untill it is free then let the cap off.
            When reassembling ensure the spring is located perfectly on the upper and lower perch as if you get it wrong you end up with a little bit more boost than you planned for
            The cap is actually aluminium and by bead blasting the old finish off you can either polish it or as you said repaint it.
            It is worthwhile inspecting the diaphragm while in there for any tears or splits, but again this is possible to test with a MityVac (or similar) on the vent of the cap when it is all assembled.

            HTH's?

                As you are an OE queen be careful with the little tag that is held on with one of the nuts, if you tighten them up too much you can knacker the tag.

                  Queen?
                  Not as OE as you might think Corey, take a look in my profile, lots of little non OE stuff.

                  Unfortunately, that tag disappeared long before I got the car, and yes it does bug me

                      If you have one going spare Corey, I'll gladly buy it off you I'd even buy a spare wastegate cap if you had one of those, although I realise they aren't an available seperate item.

                      PM me details of how you want paying etc..

                      Thanks.

                        I've got a supply of the little flange nuts that hold the cap on if you want some, shiney and new, only zinc plated so they don't look lovely forever but you're welcome to a set.

                              Newsh,

                              What size are those nuts?
                              Nothing in my box of random nuts fits!

                              Jas,

                              I've just polished my cam cover and the wastegate cap is next. I've used a dremmel with a polishing tool and some AG metal polish. Will let you know if it comes up nice.
