Yes I wasn't too happy about having to do this! but now it s out and i can get it on the engine stand and sort it in comfort! I hate Lying under cars, oil dripping in your face, having taken the sump off!

Thanks for the offer of help! I'll see how i go, I think it will be an hour here and there... I really don't have time for this!

      Cheers,
      Rob..

          YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HHAAAAAAAAAAA!!

Just stripped the ****** and found the knock!!!!

would you beleive it? the oil pump!
The dogs for the drive off the crank are well worn, in the pump that is, crank perfect.lots of back lash = knocking noise!

Going to fit some total seal rings as the pistons are well mucky with blow by.

          So who stocks the rings?

all the bearings are like new!!

          tonight!
          Rob..

And thanks to Ben (S2 Avant)
Torque specs for RS2, I couldn't find them on here.

                        Mains 65Nm

                        Big Ends 30 Nm + further 1/4 (90°) turn

                        Flywheel 40 Nm + further 180° (1/2) turn

Clutch 25 Nm - Loosen and tighten bolts in stages and diagonally

                        Headbolts:

                        ‒ 1st stage: 40 Nm
                        ‒ 2nd stage: 60 Nm
Then, Using a fixed wrench to tighten:
                        ‒ 3rd stage: 90°(1/4) further turn
                        ‒ 4th stage: 90°(1/4) further turn
                        Rob..

Good result Rob... Must admit I would have been utterly gobsmacked if it was crank related. Pretty rare that its the oil pump actually - but thats a result.

Does remind me that I need to put crucial torque settings like that onto s2central one of these short short days.

Bet you are relieved now - have a beer of three !
