Fan running all the time when ignition of

My battery was completely flat today . When I plugged the battery charger in the radiator fan came on with the ignition of . I cannot find any other reason for my flat battery. The fan always runs for a while after switching of , which I know is the after run but , now it won’t stop . What is the most likely cause . Any help would be much appreciated.

I had same issue, replaced the "after-run" relay under the dash to sort.

Is that no 324. Is it possible to run without it till I replace it

If it helps, my 90 20V always runs the fan 2 or 3 times after switching off when hot, my ABY never runs it but once it did and didn´t stop, I removed the fan relay in the fusebox and reinstaled and never happned again.

I had the same problem. 83E6B113-B351-4CED-9B12-0BC8FCAAEA1D.jpeg Took the cover off and it looked like this. Cleaned the board with some contact cleaner and a toothbrush and it’s not been a problem since, worth a try. It will be fine to run without one, my car never had one for a few years.

Also
Check the fusebox for moisture/ condensation under the relays.

If it is the afterun relay you can leave it out till you fix it or get a new one.

Thanks . John by after run relay you mean 324. I am beginning to suspect moisture as the windows only work when the car heater is hot

The after run relay 324 is part no 447 965 571 A. You should hear the pump run for a few seconds then stop when you turn the ignition on. Good point regarding damp/moisture, like a fool I left my car outside with the fusebox cover off, it rained and I ended up with a mobile disco.

There is a zender diode that fails. I bought some and took my relay to a tv repair man and he soldered the new diode in for me. It's very tight in the relay and I didn't fancy my chances of doing a good job.

The relay I´m talking about is the 214 but in my case I tried driving around without it in place and the fan never started so I stoped the car and left it idle for a while and the temperature kept going up and the fan didn´t work so I put it back and the fan started pronto and kept going after turning off the engine for a while to dissipate the excesse heating.

Wow…that does look a bit sorry for itself. I will have a look in the drawer and see if i have a spare
