Thankyou Mr Jamo!
(shock! A coupe owner showing an avant owner some respect!)
I shall steer clear of any belt changing and stick to the job in hand.
Cheers for the help lads, once again, the forum saves the day!Comment

Ok,
I have the cam tensioner off, marked the pulley and belt with a paint pen.
Also cable tied the belt to the cam pulley.
However, now I'm attempting to take the cam pulley off. How can I lock everything to stop it turning bearing in mind I don't have the audi tool.
Help!

I'm stumped with this. It's taken me all evening to get to the stage of removing the cambelt!
I can't break the cam pulley bolt loose. I have no idea of how to lock the pulley.
I've trawled the forum for over an hour now and all hall sender replacement threads seem to say is "simply remove the cam pulley".
I have tomorrow morning to do this so could really do with some help.

Started back on this at 7.30am and so far, so good. Got the swine of a pulley off (lots of locktite on it) and kept everything aligned with cable ties.
Old sensor had seized to the centre pin so wasa bit of hassle to get that off but the new one is on, the cambelt and pulley is back on, just re-assembling the PAS pump and hope to have her running in a hour or so.
Unbelievable job, this should definitely be added to the list when doing ny work around this area of the engine.Comment

Would that not damage the cam????
I checked the key on the cam pulley and it was fine, no deformation of the edges. I saw a pic of one key in a thread last night that was mangled so took care to check it thoroughly.Comment

Hey Dan,
Well done for attempting this, I only just noticed this thread other wise i would have offered to give you a hand. Have done this on my S2 2 or 3 times and watched a couple of other forum members do there ABY belts.
Anyway, looks like you got it all sorted now.
Cheers
mate.

P.s. picking up your xmember today

No it doesn't do any damage. You should lock it via this method though undoing or retightening as if you dont the key takes the load and can break.Attached FilesComment

EDIT : didn't read Dan's lastest before posting - just ignore me...!
Glad you're getting sorted Dan

I'm at the point of starting now.
I've made sure that the belt hasn't moved so I'm confident that I'm not gonna end up in tears.
Thanks for that pick Jamo, if I'd have seen that then I probably would have tried it but it adds to the hassle of this bloody task.
I never got round to trying the water trick as the only journeys I'm doing now are really long ones and didn't want to get stranded. I got the fault code from the ECU last night which confirmed the hall sender was knackered.
Anyway, here goes!Comment

well.................... the car's still just turning over, not firing.
I'm at a complete loss here, I'm getting a G69 error (throttle position sensor) but that wouldn't stop the car from firing would it?
Starting to look upon my car without the rose tinted glasses

Dan,
A few pointers (from someone who knows sweet FA about these things
) :
I'm sure you've checked that the new sensor is properly connected, but worth another look.
Did you have the G69 error before? Have you checked the connection of that sensor?Past: S2 ABY coupe RS2 spec with lots of mods, S4 B5 saloon, RS6 C5 saloon, S8 D2 FL, RS4 B7 saloon, S4 B6 avant
