not sure to be honest but my engine seems to have plenty of movement and 15 years of being sat on two blocks of rubber it must have taken its toll. I think they are about £45 each from vagparts, mine arrived yesterday, if you need the p/numbers let me know...also need to select on the basis of whether the car is aircon or non aircon...just the steering rack and another box of parts from VAGParts and I will be ready to pull my engine out

Actually one more thing if not already suggested, change the steering rack bellows as it's a pig to get to with the engine in situ and mine failed it's MOT because of a split gaiter which meant something like a 6 hour job due to poor access etc in a 3b.

Not a good day, all my final bits, or so I thought, arrived today so I set about puTting things back together, start with the oil pump,no new crank oil seal, yes I did order it and no it was'nt in the box.So phoned audi, yes you did order it but we forgot to send it. [I spend so much money there they deliver to my door wraped in paper and tied up in ribbon]
Anyway got my wife to pick up the oil seal,10 mls away.and I start to work on the engine, fit the oil pump, locating the drive on the crank very carfully making sure I
don't dam'age the oil seal by wrapping tape over the key and all went ok.Next job fit the oil pickup pipe ,no gasket, phoned audi [5.30pm ]
yes you did order it, we forgot. To late and still determined I set about making a gasket,
succed and I fit the sump, reach for my newley aquired tourgh rench ,and the box is empty,FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU??

Checking the wiring in the engine bay this morning, and found a couple of problems. the brown plug for the mfts, is knakered two wires are of compleatly, and the hole thing is badly corroded,so I ordered a new one from audi,I need to know the correct wiring colour code,so I can fix it, its a new mfts switch with three pins and there are four wires . Also the wires on the injectors are looking a bit tired is it a major job to do this,or would it be best to leave well alone.

                    Many Thanks LOU

Istill need some help with the wireing but I have another problem the dipstick shaft on the 3b is much shorter than the aan so I have taken them out to swap them over, but the receaving hole on the aan is differant,it has an exstra bit sticking out of the block and a flange on the dipstick shaft, and the 3b is just a machine fit into the block, dos anyone kow whether the exstra bit on the aan will itself come out, don't want to mess anything up at this stage.

                      Cheers LOU

Not sure about the dipstick Im afraid but I had the same query for the MFTS when I fitted mine. I cant remember the wiring but this should help

                        sjm link

link only 3 terminals are on the new MFTS and thats all you need to use

                        keep up the good work

I have done every thing I can think of now ,just waiting for the head, early next week I hope. In the mean time is it best to wait for the head ,put the hole unit together, and then fit it into the car.Or fit the block in, and then the assembled head afterwards. Lou

Doesnt make a lot of difference which way round you do it... if you don't have a engine hoist then def put the block in on its own. And if you are just twiddling your thumbs then fit the block now

Engine out...easier to do manifold bolts...harder to do gearbox bolts

                              Block in the reverse

                              Jay
