have you done a compression test ?...would do this first as you could be spending money for nothing

you will need one of these

Have you checked the wiring of the coil going right back maybe earthing which could be causing the problem

If you think it is the coil swap it over from another and see if problem moves on to another cylinder

    cheers

Ah, OK, thanks for that Knight Rider. Compression tester sounds good. Now for the embarrasing question...

... where do you screw it into to?

I replaced a coil pack with a new burrel one, which came with a length of cable attached. I noticed that all the wiring on the original coil pack was cracked. So I pulled it all out and replaced with the new cable right back to the POS (yellow) and back to another connector for the Black, where I cut the old cables, leaving just a short tail at the plug, and soldered the new ones onto that.

I though the coil packs had fixed wiring and didn't think it was possible to swap the coil packs around. Is that right?

LOL.......you take the spark plug out and screw in to there till tight then turn the engine over to get your reading .take the readings of all the cylinders so you can get a good idea of what it should be think it should be around 9-10bar but not sure

Just checking the coils get back to you

                Ah, OK.

So you just turn it over, I don't need to start it, do I?

No dont start it, remove all the plugs aswell, and do all the cylinders, you are looking for more than half a bar (pressure difference between the cylinders) if its low on cylinder 2, put a teaspoon of oil into the spark plug hole and redo the test, if the pressure increases then the rings are suspect.

OK, thanks for that guys. Think I'll re-check my soldered coil pack connections and go onto a pressure test.

So, I'm looking for between 9 and 10 Bar.

                    Cheers

Your basically looking for a big differance on no.2 cylinder

Also have you checked the coil to spark plug stub leads which are about 6 inches in length. If these are knackered it could cause an issue

If you can start it with the coil cover off it will be a miracle
