    Not running on all cylinders.....

....and neither is my car! and it was running nicely before I parked it for a few minutes!

I've searched through the forum and think I've tried everything I've found so far. Hope someone can help me with this one. I only have basic mechanic knowledge, so you may have to bear with me on some things.

I started by disconnecting one injector at a time and found that when I unplugged injector 2 (second injector from the front of the engine) there was no change to running of the engine. Unplugging all of the others made the car run even worse.

    So far I've tried:

Changing the spark plugs - The old ones looked knackered - no improvement
Changing coil pack no.2 - the wiring to it was really brittle - no improvement
Swapping a the POS plugs around - the fault remained on cylinder no. 2
Cleaned up all of the conectors to the POS using switch cleaner - no change

Now I'm wandering if it a blocked injector or something??

Has anyone else had similar problems and found a solution?

If it is an injector are there any guides to removing them and fixing/replacing them?

I appreciate any help you guys can give me.

    Thanks in advance

I would have eliminated all of the possible issues that you have done so far, but I'm afraid I would be at a loose end by now too.

I doubt it would be a Dirty MAF issue (mainly because of what you said about unplugging injector 2 and finding no difference in the running of the car) but the MAF is easy enough to clean and worth a try.

You are based in Iver? You should take your car down to the autopool and see if they can diagnose the problem. They have all the bosch equipment and are able to check the injectors to see if they are behaving as they should do.

      I would also suspect:
      lambda
      Idle stabilisation valve
      fuel filter
Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

Have you tried removing say injector number 2 and injector number 4, swap them around position wise and start her up again.
If the problem is now on cylinder 4 you know you need a new injector?

          Thanks for your replys guys.

I only spent £1200.00 in Autopool recently, so I'd like to at least give it a go myself, although it is a fallback option that I'm approaching quickly.

As the problem seems to exist on the one cylinder, I quite like the sound of swapping the injectors around. How do you remove them? Is there a guide or anything, preferably with pictures?

          Thanks
          Marv

You say you've swapped the POS but what about the Coilpack?

Also do a compression test on the cylinders especially number 2.

I replaced coil pack no.2 for a brand new Burrell one, but had no improvement.

As there are two POS plugs at the back of the engine bay, I simply unplugged them and plugged one into the other, I just switched them but didn't replace the POS. The problem still existed on cylinder no.2 though. So I didn't think it would be a faulty POS.

How do you carry out a pressure test on the cylinder?

Relieve the fuel pressure, then unbolt the fuel rail. Unclip the injectors and swap.

Once you have undone the fuel rail and removed the clips, if you pull one end of the rail away from the injectors, you will more than likely find that they come out still in the rail, either way its a good idea to put a small amount of oil on the seals both ends, as this will help lubricate them on their way in, stopping them from tearing and making it a bit easier to push them in...

I would try a compression test if that cylinder is low then its proberly a valve

Thanks guys, I'll try changing the injectors around tonight. I'm hoping that's the problem. A dodgy valve sounds expensive!

What are the symptoms of a low pressure cylinder? I haven't lost any oil recently?

Missfire, high hydrocarbons on an emission test, unlikely to burn oil.

I've just tried swapping my injectors around but unfortunately the fault has remained on cylinder 2.

Is there anything else I can try?

I'm wandering if it's still the coil pack, maybe I picked up a faulty one?

The one thing I haven't done is change the position of the black wire coming from the coil pack to another connector block at the back of the engine. Can I plug this into another connector to prove it isn't that?
