    Fitting a GT2871 turbo in a coupe

Hi guys, I'm from the states and I have an AAN (ABY) converted coupe which is running fine. I decided I needed more power, so I purchased an RS2 exhaust manifold and a Garrett GT2871 turbo. After initial fitting, the turbo hot-side hits on my passenger (right-side) frame rail and the frame rail will have to be cut. Has anybody who has done a similar upgrade ran into this problem? Cutting the frame rail is not a problem, I'm just suprised that there isn't enough room. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Never had an issue to be honest, we always ensure the engine mounts are new and raise the engine slightly to ensure there is clearance (even after the engine mount has sagged/failed). For a more permanent solution is to use uprated engine mounts (034 motorsport spec etc.)

You certainly don't need to be as extreme as cutting your chassis leg.

Ross had a few issues with fitting the 3071R, i cant remember how it was solved now, possible by altering the engine mount i think

Ross's engine was spaced between the engine mount arm and the mount.

As Corey said, replace the engine mounts! I thought mine were alright but there was a good 1/2" raise when they were done. Enough to put the 3071R hotside clear of the chassis except for hard cornering (when there was a little knocking).

As Corey also said, spacers between the mount and the arm will do the trick. This is what was recommended to me by a few others that have had the same problem. A few large washers did the trick!

BTW - brand new stock mounts.

I'd need about 4 inches (1ocm) worth of washers to get it high enough to clear the rail.

I've seen this Coupe in person and any amount of spacers wouldn't work. The engine mounts are new as well.

? i guess cutting would be the only way then... didn't realise there was any difference in the body. Any pics that show a bit more of the engine bay for comparison?

Here's a linky to my 3071 'contact' area, you'll see why the advice here was to use spacers:

Is it a 3B engine? the ABY gearbox spacer might make the difference on how much contact there is
