Intake Pipe Collapsing on 16v Coupe?

Hi Guys,

I went to look at a 16v Audi Coupe today with my Bro. He didn't buy it for a number of reasons. One of them being, when you revved it, you could see the large rubber intake bellows on the top of the air box collapsing!

I am interested to know what causes this. The ran okay but didn't pull properly on full throttle as I suspect is was strangling itself.

The rubber is probably perished and is collapsing under the vaccum

Yeah, the engine bay was very dirty but dry, which is not a bad thing. I could not be arsed to start taking it apart. I think my Bro had already decided he did not want it!

generally speaking, but i still appreicate a good quick car. Little bros mk2 gti 8v golf is wicked fun round corners, and on a bendy road, he can keep up with me!

It certainly did not pull like a 16v should. I had a 16v Audi 80 Quattro years ago and it was rapid enough....
