Vagcom guys :USB to RS232

Could be useful, I have one of these now and will bring it along to the Garage Meet to see if it will work.

I run other devices which need a 232 connection and got this from a mate.

If you search on www.bb-europe.com for a UC232A it will bring up a small device converting USB to RS232 9-pin. This little device seems to work great and is inexpensive.(snip)

They only sell these in 5s or 10s so if it works we'll have to get a GP together.

Beware, sometimes VAG-Com doesn't work with USB>RS232 converters, BTDT.
If I were you, I'd rather get the Hex-USB or the Hex-Com...

John - I'd be interested to see if this does work - I have the RS232 vagcom lead but I want to replace the laptop, Since you can't buy a laptop with the serial port I wold like to know if these work - it's worth a try.

Me too, are USB to serial cables the same thing?.You can get those on ebay for a tenner.I bought one of those interface things from someone in Germay a few months back but still havnt got a connection from the laptop to it.

Im in the same boat, my notebook doesnt have serial port, posted about it a few weeks ago,
but the cables vag-com reccomend to use are way too expensive to justify using vag-com on a 3B , something like $240.
be interested to see if it does work.

Absolutely, just to see if it works. I know that Vagcom doen't always work with USB converters. I do know that this device works for the other applications I need it for though so I got one and thought it would be interesting to see if it works on Vagcom. Since I don't yet have Vagcom we'll have to try it on someone else's
