I started mine this week as well, almost had the coilpack cover polished nicely and a spark plug has come loose last night, melted #5 coilpack and covered the lot in petrol. Balls. Maybe one day I'll get it as clean as yours!
Degreaser with a fine wire brush and an old toothbrush to get into the awkward areas.
Drill with a wire brush on the end as some of the areas were tougher than others
Silver smootharite paint as some of the parts were all rusty. I applied this with an artists brush.
Then used some Autoglym metal polish and finished off with some Mequiars trim cleaner.
Acidburn - The RS2 is meant to have a plastic one but for some reason mine never had it. The paint was chipped in little areas so I took it off and did the underside just in case it didn't work. I used wire wool and the drill with the wire attachment and some metal polish. Came out nice.

Ok cheers mate, just wondering about doing mine as well as judging from the looks your's is getting definately thinking of doing mine now, that looks brilliant
Stunning ! well done... that's amazing and puts people like me to shame.
Presumably you had to undo everything ... HT leads, pipes etc to get at them and clean them - for me that's the scarey bit - in case I put something abck wrong, or broke it getting it off!
You have to take quite a bit off but it is well worth it in the end.
When I had my S2 I was a bit worried about things not going back again but as long as you remember where things go then it is nothing to worry about.
You will be amazed at how well things are put together on these cars and how jammed packed the engine is in the bay.
Few cuts and scrapes on hands and arms to prove.
I think I am a bit of a perfectionist as I took off most of the screws that were rusty and cleaned and shined them up.

Mine is metal. Think you will find they came with both. Mihnea made a comment to that effect and he will have seen a few !
plastic was used on the latest models so as to be able to dissipate as much heat as possible as it passes over the turbo area, and metal is worse than plastic.
