But you know... looking at another JPG it would appear the vacuum side in inHg but the boost side is psi - now WTF - why cant people just buy guages in bar FCOL ?

So... I still stand by my theory that WGFV isnt working as it should - the car seems to be boosting too slowly. If its peaking at 10-12psi instead of the 6psi I would expect for 0.4bar then maybe its been fitted with a stiffer WG spring as part of its upgrade...

looking at those early jpg's again something doesnt look right. he has two photos showing idle, one at -18Hg, the other nearer 0.

i suspect he has the photo captions mixed up as surely 0 would be on throttle

Hope this helps to clarify things.

Car boost at 0 when switched off
            about 18HG side when idling

The gauge has Hg written on the left scale and PSi on the right.

Car was chipped about 2 years ago apperntly to around 280Bhp which i believe is about a stage 1 (not sure about quality of chip now though with all this happening). There was one problem way back when trying to raise the boost to 1 bar apparently the ecu was not switching off the boost (not technical it sounded something like that anyway). A upgraded map sensor was suggested and tried and this didn't cure the problem. I believe the boost is still at the original level. I have recently changed the WGFV for a new one (past 4 months) but that is not to say that this was faulty from new. I shall try the test suggested and try and get a photo of the WGFV to show the plumbing (not the easiest on the 3b) I had forgotten half of this had happened until this post
            Cheers so far

Who 'chipped' it ? Did it ever run right for you ?

For postage charges I can look inside the ECU and tell you exactly what has been done. PM me if interested.

Lol, yeah I had the same funky gauge, untill yesterday anyway, vacuum in inches of hg on the left and boost in PSI on the right, just changed it for a lovely new VDO -0.5 to +2.5 Bar gauge, courtesy of Si's group buy.

looking forward to the next group bye myself.

Just a bit more info. Have now checked all the fuses in the box under the hood and all are OK. Cleared the faultcodes with Vagcom about a month ago and now these have appeared

                    VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S

I cleared them again and the only one that is recurring is the internal memory error. These were not showing the last time i check with Vagcom and i was still getting the issue. Maybe just a red herring. Could someone "lend" me a full version of Vagcom.

                    cheers

Most likely caused by bad checksums from the 'experts' who did the upgrade. They may also have a rubbish fuel map which is causing you to exceed the adaptation limits... or your Lambda probe is bad.

Go ahead and send me the ECU (middle of next week as I'm hosed with work until then) and I'll investigate.
