If that the timing has been lined up on the pulley's and rest of the engine I reckon its still the dizzy timing that needs sorting out tbh. sounds like he has not lined them up fully.

Or a very weak one if that. did the mecanic mark the dizzy to the body of the engine before he removed it? then you can line up both the lines on the dizzy's internals towards no1 point on the cap, thats what I did with mine. You need to make sure both lines inside the dizzy are lined up perfect otherwise it won't start.Comment

Well I just read all of this thread: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...ht=hall+sender
I reckon you could well be right Peter..Comment

when I did mine i remember looking at that thread, they really are a PITA to get right.
When I did mine I lined up the marks on the engine (think I sent you links to the pictures) then I put the dizzy back on with IIRC the hall sensor plug opposite the point for spark plug one and lined up both markings inside the dizzy and then put the cap on and tried that. I remember doing it a couple of times but in the end it started fine then i put the bolt and bracket on to hold it in place.Comment

The dizzy timing has to absolutely right, it can't be just about right or there will be no spark at all.Comment

So am I right in assuming that this is some form of interlock? I.e. If nothing is lined up correctly then no spark will be generated?
The mechanic we use is a very good one indeed, he is also very familiar with UR quattros as he owns one but he told me he is applying the theory of all other dizzys on audis by saying that if you stick them in and get the timing 'close enough' the car will sort its self out.
This mentality is clearly never going to get my car started though...
If I can establish its definatly an interlock I can take around all the pictures of how to time the car up and explain why there is no spark being generated as the lack of spark is what is confusing him at the moment.Comment

It is indeed connected!
They have now managed to start the car up, apparently the problem was the magnecor lead from the coil to the dizzy, alledgidly its too long as there was no clip to hold it on.
If that is the case I shall be having words with magnecor!
