    oil in coolant

i'm getting about a teaspoon of oil in the expansion bottle every 1000 miles,is there an oil cooler on the 3b that could be the culprit or is it the head gasket?
i'm not getting water in the oil and nothing on the filler cap.
    any help much appreciated

hhmm... I'd rather say: headgasket... is the only way where water and oil passes thrugh... check 4 water on the exhaust!

I agree. It is probably the head gasket. A very small leak between pressurised oil and un pressurised water. It happened to me on my VW. It was 100% driveable but goo was slowing building in my expansion tank until I replaced the head gasket.

          Good luck.

finally got round to starting the gasket change today, only took me 8 months.
so here is the first of many daft questions to come in the next few weeks.
is there a vag toolkit for the engine ? so far inlet manifold bolts have been a pain to reach and now what fits the head bolts
does anyone know the part number for the power steering pump to bomb hose ?

that is the high pressure hose, 895 612 065 B and it is not cheap...i was quoted around 250euro back in Greece...Mine is slowly dripping now and then, but a friend of mine had this problem for 7 years before he had to replace it,so i left it like that.

There is s special tool VAG1669 6mm allen for the inlet mani bolts. You can get by with some 9inch T-handles.

Leave both manifolds and turbo on the head and lift of as one,its very heavy, at least a two man job,but much quicker and alot less hassle than trying to undo the EM bolts, you need a magic wand to undo some of those. Good luck

agreed, although i've never changed a turbo car n/a cars its easyer to take off raw pipe and downpipe. dont forget new head bolts, they are stretch bolts so need replacing! and there is an order you need to undo them, its a circular pattern, can never remember if its outsid ein or inside out. sure someone on here will let you know. good luck!
P.S. may be a ood time to change to ARP studs if yo were ever thinking about it??
