Just opened the bonnet to have a listen once parked (car warm) there's quite a fast ticking noise coming from the engine bay? Almost liek a solenoid switch or something. Nearish the injectors etc. Can't really pinpoint it.
Any ideas??

if you get a big screw driver and put the sharp end against the engine/injector/whatever/ and the blunt end pressed against your ear - you will be able to locate to within an inch - where the tapping is coming from.
aha tricks of the trade..... i thought for a minute when I read "if you get a big screw driver and put the sharp end..........." that I was in trouble...... yak yak. Thanks fella

I find my engine gets a bit noisier when the oil level drops down towards the minimum mark - try topping it up to the max level and see if that makes a difference.
Dan I have a ticking noise on my s6, found out its asmall leak on the EM. It go's away when the engine is hot.
Also as Error404 says if you are a little low on oil the tappets will tick at times
Reviving this old thread,
Just recently replaced the cylinder head, new cams everything stock and now I hear ticking noise only when warm coming from the engine.
I'll do the screwdriver trick, but I'm wondering if it's worth while doing an engine flush. Has anyone ever used or done one and which product did you use?
