I have just realised I havent got any of the connectors needed to create the new loom for the 1.8 coils, so wont be able to fit them tomorrow

Terry, Id like to take up your offer of trying your coils if possible, how can we go about that?

When it is at idle it runs perfectly, if you rev it in neutral it is perfect too.
As soon as you start to give it any more that light throttle above 2k it starts to hold back. Best way to describe it is as if it was about to run out of fuel.
Also, when changing gear there is a slight hesitation after putting your foot back on the power, which also suggests ignition.
Jamie (my tuner) had when he drove it, he could see the unburnt fuel out the back when on WOT, again, a sign of an ignition problem!

So, we will fit some 1.8 coils on Friday, and go from there
Thanks for the offers of trying coils to save money, but thankfully I have been given 4 1.8 coils for free, and the 5th is only £15, so not really a big outlay!

Hopefully my next question will be who can point me to one of those covers that replace the original coil cover that cant be used

    EDIT:
I forgot to say I had given the MAF a good clean too

i had a simillar problem on 2 occasions both different issues, but they were firstly the coils and then a few months later i had to change the MAF and it has been fine ever since!

Are these symp'toms you have, like a hiccup, only when driving and only below 3000 revs, or do you get a missfire at stand still.

Would be good to try some of the stuff dest before you spend out on something that you don't need (but will save you doing it in the future)

Have some nock sensors you can try if you want. Sounds like coils to me though, I believe that Jas11n had a wiring issue with one of his coils and this caused either a hiccup or running on 4...

Sounds like it could be coils or maybe knock sensors? Will the engine do it at a stand still whilst been taken through the rev range? I have some coils you can try

started a topic What else can it be?!

    What else can it be?!

My car has had a misfire/holding back on boost problem for ages now

    It has had:
New plugs (correct recommended ones torqued correctly)
    New WGFV
    New dump valve
    New intercooler due to hole
All boost hoses checked for leaks, leak test done and is now ok

We are going to put some 1.8T coils on on Friday as now the boost leak is sorted, its still doing it and feels/acts like its definitly looking like an ignition problem

I just hope it fixes it, if not, what else could it be?!
Working...
