Removing the stock airbox also allows this chatter. Amplified through the cone filter.

I could be very wrong.....
But i think it has something to do with the primitive anti lag system (cant remember the name) cuz the S1 didn't make this noise nor did it have the anti lag system. But the S1 E2 did and it had the anti lag system.

I have a picture from att S1 engine bay where that system i used...
But i dont thing that the reason the sound coming!
The thing with the valve sounds more likely.Attached FilesComment

Its a cool sound but its slower than running a proper recirculating valve, with the recirc the air from the DV is directed back at the impellor helping the turbo to keep spinning between gearchanges.Comment

I achieved that exact same sound a few years ago by (as has been said!) removing the DV on my then Impreza Turbo and blanking off the holes. The sound is the air being forced back over the still spinning compressor blades. As has been said, it doesn't do any favours to the turbo and puts extra strain on the post-turbo pipework, intercooler, etc.
Surprisingly I found it significantly reduced turbo-lag. I can only put this down to the post-turbo pipework & intercooler remaining pressurised between gear changes more than offsetting any losses from the turbo slowing down?
Not got the balls to try it on the S4 .. it is 15 years old this year!2005 Skoda Fabia vRS
