    S1 whistle.

Not sure if I should place this here, or in the Intakes subforum, but just a quick question: Can you achieve the whistling sound on a stock AAN 20vt, what bov would I need? As heard on the youtube link below

Im not sure either... But i will say that it is the wastegate to... the sound come because of the way that the make the exhaust pipe, the have one pipe fra the turbo and back and one fra the wastegate and back, like the system Hans has mount on this RS2

        I maybe wrong on this...

iirc its the fact that it has no directer valve so you get loads of compressor stall when the throttle body closes off. Doesn't do the turbo any favors though.

There is a thread on here somewhere that compares diverter valve and dump valve sounds. Just have a search.

Yep. Turbo compressor stall it is. You can get it by using a standard recirc valve for a couple of months until it breaks!!!

If you want it then get rid of the recirc valve and buy a spare turbo!

Thats right. But dont forget these turbochargers have polygon axle where the impellers are mounted and can work without BOV without big problems.

how many people have just wandered off to remove their tbv in order to see if they can get that noise

Not one word of a lie - every hair on my arms and back of my neck just stood to attention at the soundtrack on that video clip. Its not the whistling/chirping sound that gets me - its just the sweey dissonance of the engine note at full boost. Takes me right back to the forests of the 1980's watching those things.

OMG - is that driver brave or what - serious bit of aggresive cornering action there on tarmac - can't imagine the drivetrain would like that for too long... Hence why an S1 never finished a tarmac rally in Ireland (TTBOMK).

                Waaaaaaaaaaaaaap - waaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhp - tingles

The chatter on let-off can be replicated by removing the vacuum line from the top of the DV. Not recommended though as the chatter is the DV diaphragm vibrating and could damage the DV, turbo or whatever the wakest part of the boost system is.

A separate WG pipe will give you the full-boost scream, some have done that on here but it's VERY LOUD and some have reverted to a plumbed-in WG.

I've always fancied the following for the track, just to maximise aural enjoyment:-

                    Side exit zorst.
                    Separate WG pipe
                    Extra loud atmospheric DV
Large cone filter popping out the driver's side headlight.

Iff stock one is making that noise, then the membrane is ruptured or the vacuum hose blow off.

I know, but the engine was stalling on deceleration and was making only 0.6 bar~
About the sound, you are right! Was nice!
I think is possible to achieve this by an dump valve wich opens automatic at a certain pressure. Like mounting the valve oposite and adjust the spring at the boost limit.
Dont know about the turbo. Iff will be strong enough!
