    Bad miss Fire ?

    Boll*cks

I had a clever idea this morning to clean the engine bay and spray it down with wd40..
So bought some junk follwed in the instructions.. jet washed my engine
And tadaaaa .. the car bow runs on 4 pots.. was okay to begin with but has slowly got worse... What could it be ?
    s2 new project

    On going !!!

BTDT, and I didn't even jet wash. Just the presence of water from a slow spray of water from my hose entered the old and degraded coilpack wiring, killing them.
Wiring was all cracked, hard and very brittle. No way could I get all the water out.
Sorry to say, only solution for me was to replace all five coilpacks as the wiring for them isn't separate or available on it own.
Try some water dispersant like WD40 on the wiring to and from the coilpacks. You'll have to undo the four allen headed bolts and lift the coilpack cover off to get at the wiring adequately.

        Never a truer statement written.

Getting water in wiring like this, isn't good.

£350 inc shipping with a bit of discount from www.vagparts.co.uk You'll have to be prepared for some soldering, as you've got to splice the new coilpacks wiriing into the old at the connectors.
There's alternatives, 1.8T team bodge retrofits (require you to run around with no coilpack cover on) or the high output system on sale at 034 motorsport. Which route you go is up to you mate.

Before going any of those routes, try as I say above first.
Also you'll see a row of connectors behind the head on the bulkhead, give these the same treatment. Just above those are the two POS's (power output stages or TCi units) Same again, give these a good squirt with water dispersant. Same again for the five injector connectors.

Good luck, it's a tad frustrating this particular problem.

Hey Jas11n: I take offense to your phrase "1.8T team bodge retrofits". The 1.8t coil pack conversion, either as a DIY or as a complete kit from Apikol, is a very cost effective solution for an AAN/ABY that is not going to make over 370 hp or be tracked extensively. Much less than replacing all 5 OE coils and POSs.

Couldn't get all the water out? Wow. I guess you didn't know that water evaporates.

I would have removed the "20V Turbo" cover with all 5 coils, flipped it on its back, on the cam cover, and started mopping up and then used a hairdryer and time to get rid of the moisture. Then, for a temporary measure, I would have used black electricians tape to cover the worst cracked or missing insulation bits. That would likely be able to get the car started again. (However, a short might have blown the coil pack fuse so that might have to be changed/reset). Then I would decide whether I want to pay US$700 for 5 OE coils that I would have to solder in, US$399 for a plug and play 1.8t coil pack conversion kit from Apikol or about US$675 for a 034 plug and play high out put coil kit.

                        Define "bodge".

It uses all OE parts, just in a different application. I guess converting an S2 to RS2 standards using RS2 parts is a bodge as well?

Yeah, I can't disagree. However, since I am the author of the original DIY instructions and, not withstanding dubweiser (or whoever it was that used three pin 1.8t coil packs in the AAN powered Golf Mk 1), I was the first person to develop the four pin 1.8t coil pack conversion, I think I have the right to take offense to "team bodge".
