    Cams?

    Hello folks
This is my first thread. My english is not good... but I will give it a go!
I am building a new engine for my s2 aby. It is a total rebuild with Je-pistons, pauter rods, tube ex-manifold, reverse intake, large front IC, gt3582(1.06a/r), etc etc.
I have been searching the forum for info on cam setup. I have found a few threads on the subject. And I am quite confused!
My goal with the engine is 500+ crank HP.
As I can see in the threads people adwise using aby/3b intake and 7a ex, so that you can maintain good midrange and still have good flow at high rpm.
    My question is:
Is this cam setup good for 500 crank hp?

The best bet is to take a look at some of the project threads and speak to the guys building them up on this I think

Use both 7A cams for 500+. Add an adjustable cam wheel and advance the cams 5 degrees

I wouldn't use the 7A inlet it will give you more lag, it has been dyno by MRC http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10461

I have used it in my setup with an RS2 ex cam and it does feel good but it's not worth the extra lag.

Appart from the extra lag. Where would be the benefits with the 7A inlet?

the cams need timing up properly.

cant see why a cam with slighly more duration and more lift would induce lag if set up properly. the benifits on boost would also be far greater. true the exhaust has more effect but on high bhp you gotta get more in too.

im going with both 7a cams gonna look for 10-12 deg overlap. not sure whats there to start with. those are the figures recommended for a 16v engine and the standard cams, basically 7a cams but more lift again, they are the best cams for FI 16v

I'm not good at interpreting the graphs. When I am aiming at a HP number over 500 - would you say that the inlet cam is necessary then?
I bought 7A cams on ebay last week together with an ajustable camwheel. And my turbo is quite a beast(gt35/40(1.06ar)) So my biggest concern is the spool up! Wouldn't want to wait till 5000 rpm to hit full boost

I' m using the same turbo, with 7A cams.

                    I have:

                    4500@1bar
                    5250@2bar
                    6500@2,46bar

                    etc.

you have to wait until 5000rpm for full boost, or buy a v8

Ok.... thank you all for helping me out.
I am still not quite sure what is the wisest thing to do with the 7A cams. But what the hell...... I have decided to run both cams and boost 1,9 bar. Then I hope that it will hit 500+

They tested on engines with a "lot" less HP and with smaller turbos I guess. Small turbos often = more backpressure. And high backpressure with longer duration cams is often a no no They only tested with std timing (I guess again...). Advancing the cams ~5 degrees will help spool up / reduce lag. A true 500+ turbo on a 2.2 will not give full boost before 4000 anyway

Way too big turbo for "only" 500hp If 500 is the goal a GT30R (GT3076) will be a much better turbo. The turbo you have will not give full boost before ~4500 I'm afraid, but it can make 600hp
A smaller a/r would make it spool a bit faster.

I know the turbo is a little too big.... But if it hits 550+! - Then I guess thats ok with me:mischeif:
