I would replace the whole lot, ie the studs and the nuts and washers...
best way is with some socket head bolts, in stainless, with stainless washers...
available from Namrick... Socket Cap Head Screw (A2 Stainless Steel)

Bingo..... so much better than keeping the rusty bits the nuts were rusted to...

                  Your nuts

The correct type of nuts are “ Flange Nuts”.

I have just bought loads of ‘M4 and M5’ Stainless Steel (A2) flange nuts, so if your are prepared to split the cost plus postage I will send you some. (8 off, that will allow a few to be lost £2 to UK address)

Either way you will have the correct fasteners. Mine will turn up towards Thursday or Friday this week. (21st March 2008)

Do not use mild steel, nylocs or bent beam fasteners and definitely do not use washers of split washers. The only change you need is to do, is from stainless still from passivated mild steel.

                  Alternatively, try eBay.

                  Ba,

                  A.

This is a neat way of doing it, and also replaces the rod part with stainless.... just doing the nuts is only half the job.... When I did mine, 2 were so badly rusted on they were not possible to remove jusy the nuts...

                          update for anybody interested,

Tried m4 flange nuts (7mm head) don't fit, just noticed originals have 8mm head so I guess m5 flange nuts are the correct fitment ?

You are correct, the stud are 'M5' in diameter.

I have use stainless steel flange nuts to replace the old nut as my studs were OK.

However, the spare wastegate I bought to have a standard top cover, rather than the wrecked version the previous owner made, I could not get one of the nuts off and the stud came out. Everything is ‘M5’ and the length of the replacement cap bolts are “50 mm”. (Use a standard SS M5 washer between the cap bolt and the wastegate top cover)
