    voltage for aan/aby/adu coils

I've been having problems getting my aan coupe running right...
it hits a wall under boost.....

does anyone here know what numbers I should get for voltage from my coils?

I used a Thexton No.404 adjustable ignition spark tester

    30kv coil 1,
    25kv coil 2,
    27kv coil 3,
    30kv coil 4,
    30kv coil 5,

I tried on each to go one turn further and such, so they pretty much maxed out at those numbers..
on the card it has requirements for some domestics, but I have no idea what I should get out of my aan coils...

are they all low? (gm distributorless ignition should get good spark intensity @ 36kv)

I figure that if they aren't sparking under simple cranking to the required point, then there is no way they could be sparking under the higher output conditions where my problems lie.....

oh yea, big p.s. even though the body of the gapper is enclosed in plastic, don't hold it......
    you will get shocked

    thanks

I don't know the exact voltage output but this procedure that I wrote for the UrS forum on Audiworld might help you to track down the problem:

    http://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/149788.phtml

So far, if it isn't a POS, then I would start to suspect Coil No. 2.

The whole coil - POS issue is why I came up with the 1.8t coil pack conversion procedure and instructions. You might want to check it out too:

Be patient and thorough and you will find the problem (but start by knowing that the plugs and the coil-to-plug boots are in good shape)

That is a high output kit though... What's standard voltage?

          thanks for the imputs guys...

(but start by knowing that the plugs and the coil-to-plug boots are in good shape)

the boots aren't in perfect shape, but all the plugs work when firing.....
then also, I had to check the voltage with the boots off cuz the tester wasn't long enough to fit into the boot

kinda funny, but I already have your nice little pdf write up and have 8 1.8 coils on the way..(ebay for 30.00$)..(did that before I tested mine, so I'm just hoping for a verification then I'll start a little harness and get it going )

25-30kv are too low i think... change them
thats what I think too, just not sure (in the manual a distributorless v8 (non turbo car, less output from each cylinder) requires 36kv) ????

have over 45kv on my singel coil (crane ps91) for the 5syl vw
            and i think the ford v6 have 60kv +( 2,5liter and 2,9liter)
have no sparkboot at the end, conected to the plug, and i have 1,2mm gap

hmmm, guess this means that I should be seeing about the same for the aan probably eh....

I can't find anywhere the output of the stock "healthy" ann coil....

As I mentioned on MG, just swap out your coils and POSes with a set from a local good running urS4/urS6, thats definitely the easiest way to be sure.

there are a new kit for the singelcoil.... they have the same P/N, but the letter are the "R" instead for the old one "L"
