The ones mentioned at 353gms are also 81.5mm. with big deep cut out valve pockets, running 8.75:1 CR
JE told me that they will be good for well over 800BHP

I'll weigh my stock 7a pistons and rods tomorrow to check weights.
Anybody able to weigh JE pistons for 83mm or specifically 82.5mm???

Aelred, i'll give you a call next week RE: JE piston prices.

        My last set of JE's:
        • Made to fit 3.228 inch bore (82mm)
        • 8.0:1 compression ratio
        • Valve pockets 1.5mm deeper than OEM piston
        • 20mm Wrist Pin as in OEM piston, JE wire locks
        • 1.2mm, 1.5mm and 3mm ring groove
        • Lateral Gas ports
        • Contact Reduction Grooves
        • Accumulator Groove

These came out at 304 gms naked

If I were to do it all over again with new rods I would go for a 22mm wrist pin.

The job ticket that came with the pistons

Was thinking of getting 82.5mm's with 8.0 CR.

22 wrist pin, hmm, that would be nice - but if I'm going to have the slightest chance to get the car on the road this summer, I'd better not get custom rods too. Will check it out, though... This raises some questions in my head though. If I'll go with 22mm and custom rods, what about the pin positioning? Stock? And stock 144mm rod length?

It seems that several of you ordered from Top End, do they have the blueprints for the stock pistons?

JE, Wiseco and CP pistons all have blueprints for the stock pistons.

Top End Performance merely send the specs to JE to make the pistons.

Ah, didn't know who had the blueprints since I didn't find the S2 in JE's list.

                  Ok. I'm now officially panicking!

Lead time for stock type rods is 3 weeks. Custom rods 6-8 weeks. That would put me in mid-late may before i have all the engine parts if i go with 22mm wrist pin. Then bore, balancing, bolting it togehter, get it back into the car, wire the ems...probably 2010 then?

So, question is. Do I really have any use for a 22mm wrist pin?

And I still haven't decided where to get the pistons from...

If someone just could contact me and say "Hey, I've got the stuff you need. Wanna buy?"...

There have been a lot of high power I5's built using the standard 20mm pin. I haven't heard of any that went bang because a pin failed, maybe someone here knows different?

That said I would have prefered to have a bigger pin in my last build, but I couldn't really afford some custom rods as I had already bought a set of Arrow's.

I think I saw Jen Eklunds new engine is using 23mm pins!

If your going for 82.5mm JE's i can ask Aelred for a price for a set of 5 as i'm after a set fore 82.5mm bore as well and just comparing prices to see whats cheapest. I'm looking at 8.5:1 CR as well so if you want to pm me what your after i'll ask Aelred later today when i get a free minute.

Some new questions have arised (unusual...not. )

Because I'm a bit stressed right now, I might not go with precisely what I was planning to...

                          So, what's the gains/losses?

                          81.5mm vs 82.5mm
                          8:1 CR vs 8.5:1 CR

                          Thanks,

8.5 CR and 81.5mm would keep things simple.

Ported head, other cams, reverse IM, tubular EM, bigger IC, GT35/40BB, forged steel rods, studs in head and bottom, etc. Will probably crank it up to what the turbo can deliver.

Want something that works even with a bigger turbo and more boost, which I probably will get in the future...
