I think i am in need of more power So how easy is it to upgrade the turbo? If i go for a KKK26/27/29 is it a straight forward fit? What other bits are needed,pipes/hoses/injectors etc? Dare anyone answer, what sort of cost would i be looking at?
You need a 10mm spacer for the oil feed line - Tom is getting one made for Paul just now.
I think the standard water feed can be slighlty bent to fit.
You need an adapter to get the hose to the inlet of the turbo to fit - or go custom inlet hoses route with cone. Mihnea can get a metal adapter - I'm not sure if that can be used with the standard hose (just chopped up a bit).
RS2 injectors should be ok.
Good for 420bhp (maybe a bit more) - not that hard an upgrade - the cost will be the turbo, maybe the metal inlet pipe and maybe a couple of silicon hoses - around £1300 + remapping.
Nick has just done this on his RS2, apart from he is going with the MTM inlet as well.
Other options would be the Garret style turbos - I don't know anything about them.
You can use a 70-60mm reducer hose to adapt the existing inlet pipe to turbo (if it's a K26/27 it's 70mm inlet - Doug is k26/27/29 bigger ?). I nicked mine off my MarkH modded i/cooler (now replaced) and used a piece of stainless steel pipe (would you believe, a exhaust trim - I was in a hurry, dammit) to strengthen the hose so you can put a clamp on it. SFS had 4 left when I ordered my last one. About £28 incl postage and circlips.
The 10mm spacer thing is a must though, unless you wanna twiddle your thumbs after finding out the leaky way that you can't do without it (Like I'm doing )
