    Turbo Rebuild

Just done a little search and have found AET and Turbo Dynamics are mentioned as good places for this with AET being the main KKK UK agent? I'm thinking of having a little chat to see what extras I can have done when it's being rebuilt like a 360degree thrust bearing but maybe there are a few other things that can be done, would be good to know? Also, are they done on exchange or is it your turbo that is rebuilt?

Andy, AET are just one of several KKK agents for the UK, the main one being BTN Turbo in Uxbridge, west London

But as for your unit, well they should remanufacture your old one as opposed to doing an exchange unit, but that maybe be up to you

Cheers Aelred. Strangely enough my Dad has just moved 5 miles from Christchurch and TD is on the same industrial estate as his beloved tip (as I found out at new year)... he didn't get quite as excited as I was when I realised this

I've contacted TD in the past and so I'll give them a bell and see what they can do for me and if there are any tweaks that might help :mischeif:

I have had numerous turbos rebuilt by Grant @ AET and have had no issues. He has just finished a VNT15 coldside outlet on a VNT17 turbo for my 1.9tdi. :mischeif:

I had to have some extra work done, the shaft had a score mark in it so needed a new one of them, came in at £350ish all in.

Thats not a bad price, was that to standard spec or any changes?

Garage i work for has been getting turbos from Turbo Dynamics for 10+ years- never had any problems with them, Std recon or balls out roller bearing hybrid !!

Had a customer with a GTI R nissan sunny shitbox, turbo went and as he'd taken out mechanical insurance they paid for a new one - but had to be done by one of their approved suppliers , After the 3rd "new" turbo in as many months, we got one from TD never a prob with it for 5+ yrs!!!

Can't recommend them highly enough....Ask to speak to Craig.

Cheers guys, I'll give TD a call and see what can be done. Bry, please could you look into AET and PM me, I'm interested in std. rebuild price and also any worthwhile upgrades that can be done to the k24 to improve things a little :mischeif:

                            andy,
at what cost of a rebuild-upgrade would you concider a new slightly bigger turbo?
I mean if they tell you that with 300GBP you can get some kind of upgrade along with a rebuild of your turbo, would you go for a new turbo with same abilities and lightly more expensive? That would mean of course a new remap again...But so would an upgrade on your turbo as well.

reason for asking--->trying to see if the prices here for a decent rebuild/upgrade are worth it.Back in Greece,if a hotside failure would be detected,it would be easier to just buy a new turbo instead of replace the parts for the old one.(had to do it initially with my RS2 turbo--Paul bought it the end)!

I'm after a turbo that does not require much money to be spent to get it woring right. A remap is £500 and so this throws a big spanner in the works, that's a long way towards a flowed head, reverse inlet etc. If I could keep existing EM, injectors and all pipework, airbox etc then it might be nice but that's going to yield 30bhp extra max as the standard EM and injectors limit the setup to about 330bhp, in this case I'd go RS2 TBH. I'd prefer to get a standard turbo rebuilt to a spec that is more reliable with higher operating temperatures and can still utilise the Homefries that's in there at the mo. Sensible but cheaper
