Chris Miller "found" the engine for me at All-Audi...I worked with Dean Chiswell (mostly via email) to import the engine to the US in the fall of 2002. Given that the engine came out of a 200k mile S2 with a history unknown to me, I plan on having it rebuilt.
Of course I first need to decide on what level of horsepower I want-because that will significantly affect the cost of the rebuild (low end of the cost scale is removing the head, replacement of valve stems and seals, replacement of the EM with RS2, S6 metal head gasket, replacement of the main crank bearings, front and rear crank seals, cam seals and valvecover gasket, as well as a new oil pump and the AAN oil pan baffle - higher end is adding porting and polishing, forged connecting rods, coating the cylinders and em, etc)
Another twist will be maintaining the AC currently in the CQ, since the S2 which "donated" the engine did not come with AC. I need to find out what the differences are between the 3B S2 with and 3b S2 without AC....
I also plan on going larger than stock intercooler ( S2 or RS2) and take advantage of the removal of the secondary radiator.
My wife and I each drive his and her chipped 1991 200 20v Avants (3B engine), so I am somewhat comfortable with the conversion. That and the fact that a whole community has sprung up of folks in the US that are converting US spec coupe quattros to S2 or Rs2 spec vehicles as well as others installing 20v engines into US spec URQs.
By far the hardest part will be replacing/patching the wiring harnesses.

Sounds like you've got all the bases covered! It would be worth fitting the Carillo (or another make in the US?) con rods whilst the engine is still out, talk about making life easy!! but, they have to be one of the most expensive parts surely?
Metal head gasket is a must do! ask Tom!! what's the difference with the AAN pan baffle?
I had a look about the 3B for any major differences with/out AC, The rads are the same, there is an extra 'flange' on the sump of a 3B engine if it doesn't have AC, but i cannot find exactly what the flange is? it's just listed with the sump?? The oil filter housing (the part the filter screws to) is different on 3B's with AC. The turbo oil feed and return pipes are different w/wo AC, but the turbo water pipes are not different. Engine mounts are different. The suspension springs are different. Alternator is bigger, Those are all the main differences I could find, not a lot!
Then of course the wiring side of things... I know it is a bit of a nightmare... grafting your loom to the 3B. I know Josh L in the US had / is having fun doing his!
Good luck with your install, it sounds great :-) but I know the amount of work needed to complete, is not to be underestiamted!
My main water rad came out just as you said, I thank you for your assistance
Dude, if you are converting to a 3b lump make sure you use the steel head gasket no matter what!!! Will only take 300bhp! Trust me mate. Also the 3b is limited in the amount of boost you can run due to the ignition system, later ABY has DIS ignition(coil per cyl) this makes turning boost up a lot easier. 3b system is limited to about 1.6 bar (ish). About 340-350 bhp. Head only needs porting when you get to about 450-500bhp. Invest in 7a or RS2 exhaust camshaft, 7a FPR, and 3 Bar MAP sensor.
Standard rods will take about 1.7-1.8 bar, but not for ever.
