I'm not planning on going too power mad, although on the limit of stock rods. So I thought a set of Chinese rods would be ok for what I want, something slightly better than stock. In my point of view these cheapos are an upgrade when replacing original ones, yet not being that much better, only a little less bad.
Maybe good for some RS2 upgrade or so, but for more demanding applications, especially when longevity is a concern, I definately recommend paying a couple hundreds more, and using some known brand rods.

Unless they're still crying over their engine that has several holes in the block.

Quoting myself
Issues are not that huge, so motor may startup and run "good", but still internal friction may multiply, causing lots of issues when parts start to age. Also small difference in compression ratio between cylinders cause vibration, which ever more cause excessive wear to the internals, like pistons and bearings.Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspiratedComment

I asked them where these were made last year and he didn't give an answer, they are not vacuum forged in the UK for that money. The grinder sounds Chinese aswell.Kingdoms are run by Kings, Dictatorships are run by Dictators.

Philip did say they looked like cheap Chinese rods
I'll get in contact with SPM and see if they are willing to do anything. It was two years ago that group buy so i don't expect much.
If i'm forced to buy another set what are recommended? Any indication of costs and suppliers would be great.

I have always used Pauter rods unless supplied by customers, they will make them to your spec. I never had any failures or problems with them. With discount to me and the exchange rate and custom duties and shipping they are approx. £550 to £600 They can be rifled drilled for a very reasonable cost. Their design is not the "H" pattern but the "I" pattern. I have also used Carillos but the price is a lot higher.AelredComment

Well, all I can say about the SPM rods is that they are infamous here in Sweden, mostly about what you just found out very different weight in a kit.
