i see.. so does it sound right what i need to do? Skimm it then get new gaskets?

also running it with the head leaking, would that cause more damage?

You will not be able to tell for sure until you get the head off. Look for a blown head gasket. If that looks good have the head pressure checked to see if it leaks.
Chances are a skim and a new gasket will take care of it.
As far as running it with a leak and causing more damage, its hard to tell. You may be causing a hot spot in the head but I doubt it. It is likely okay but it is a gamble. If the water leaks into the cylinder while the engine is shut down, you could bend a rod when you start it up! Not good.
      I would park it.

if the water leaked into the cylinder, would that show up in a oil change? coz the old oil seemed water free..

parking it would.. be a nightmare as its my only form of transport. Also the water seems to be leaking from the gasket from what the mechanic could see and a build up of anti freeze on the oil filter (on the outside).

while im on the subject, once i remove the head, where would be the best place to take it to as im prepared to pay more for a good job, i can only afford to do this once.

            Ski,
It would likely show up in the oil. My concern is that the head gasket leak may eventually start to leak into the block. I guess you could keep checking the dipstick for froth.
As for where to get it done? I am the US so I can't help you there my friend.

Ski, the best place to take the head for machining is Quasar engineering in Bredbury near Stockport, they are fantastic.

If you want the full job doing then Dave MC Coll in Woodford 0161-439-5698 may be worth a contact. Fantastic engineer and he is fully Bosch equipped. Mine will be going down there for a tune when it's back on the road.
