I have not got around to doing this and till my cars sorted I probably won't, i'm tempted just to leave it and get an rs2 box at some point but dunno yet.

Plus I did say i'd lend david my airbox for castle combe in a couple of weeks to see if he likes it and wants to do the same.

Yeah, drilling the cold side changes the sound a bit, louder and a bit harsher rather than the purr but at about 5-7k it sounds awesome

If you get to castle combe i'd be interested to hear what it sounds like especially if you stick it on the rollers and see if you get the magic 300

Sounds like modding the box is the way to go then, and cheaper too!

Before I spend ages searching, does anyone know if there are any pics showing where is best to drill/cut?

Look for my thread entitled ABY airbox bodge That shows the rough cut I made out the front, then I just filled the cold side with 16mm holes, it's not an exact science, just make sure that you don't drill it on the heatshield side or too close to the turbo etc. The otehr option is to bond a 4" piece of drain pipe to the front and then have a corresponding hole cut in the inner wing and run some 4" flexi or 4" silicon hose to it, don't worry about bellmouths and all that, that's what makes the box quiet You could also drill the box with this setup if it's a bit quiet.

If you want more noise then fit a K&N pannel filter, they're louder than OE but you'll have to give the MAF a squirt of carb cleaner every now and again.
