STR exhaust Manifold

There is no collector, the gasses all run along a central tube for each cylinder hence the term log. This design results in higher backpressure and EGT's
In the wagner / rs2 manifold manifold each cylinder has it's own path for the gasses collating at the collector directly into the turboComment

Right, I understand. And the OE mani is a bit rubish because of 1 & 5 having a longer distance due to joining the WG pipe. There is no collector, the gasses all run along a central tube for each cylinder hence the term log. This design results in higher backpressure and EGT's

You got it
Log manifolds are very popular in the american market as they are easy to design and mass produce but ideally you want the collector design with each cylinder going to a central collector.Comment

I would doubt whether any manifold bar some of the IMSA stuff is optimal!
There are many contraints - design, material, cost and of course packaging.
Question is is it any better than the original. Feedback from some users seems favourable. Obviously you would have to wait longer to see what the durability is like.
If nothing else it looks better than the rather curious arrangement the bean counters at Audi let us have when they already had a Sport casting available. Then again, people say they aren't much good either!
If only these people could get all the little things right like the wastegate issue which seems to catch out all these replica manufactureres.Comment

Interesting that the flow bench data in a previous thread shows the RS2 to have about 5% more total flow capability yet from the results I've seen on here it will allow a lot more power. For £250 I should be able to source a decent (& proven) RS2 manifold...Cheers'en, AndyC

I wonder how it's going to hold. Shouldn't be too hard on a 350-375 bhp setup. It costed 200 euro including shipping (75 canedian $) to the netherlands, and it took 5,5 weeks to get here. But since our engine is still not ready, the waiting was no problem. And the fitting (as was a problem on the previous ones, such as brams) should be ok now. You can buy 4 for the price of 1 original or wagner... So I'll post the experiences when the engine runs.Last edited by Joris; 27 May 2009, 19:26.Comment

You maybe able to buy 4 but it's nowhere near the same quality
a) It's a log manifold!, it has no collector i.e no individual runners from each cylinder to a central output so EGT's will be higher and exhaust gasses will / have the potential to interfere with each other.
b) The runners are small, the Wagner runners are 38mm odd and will support over 500 bhpComment

True. Simple fact is that the project has cost nearly twice as much as expected when we started (15000+ euro) and at a given moment you have to stop spending on good materials. This is something that is fairly easy to replace, and when there's some money available we'll eventually do that. But for now this should do.Comment
