Advice an options for my next upgrade - suggestions please

Ready for upgrading again but this time need to focus on the path to goodness as budget is £1500 at the moment.

Currently running kkk24, MTM chip and samco`s and is ok but just not enough thats for sure

Ideally would like to get 350 to 400 BHP

    Question 1
Are Stock rods good for 400 on S2, 3B ?

if yes then the case most economical way forward is ...

RS2 turbo ( kkk hybrid on 034) - as can bolt straight onto current without replacing lines
    RS2 2 - Intercooler
    Minhea remap

    Bucks about £1200 - £1500

    or

    3" downpipe ( corey or o34)
    New Skats ( 034) plus RS2 shells
    Maybe a honing whilst there?

... in ready ness for the GT3071 that i can hold down to 350 to 400 and as and when crank up as needed then !

Frustrating as small gains now but ready for lots in the future...

    any suggestions ?

You need a new exhaust manifold as well which you haven't budgeted for and also you need larger injectors.

Best route is 2nd hand RS2 turbo and exhaust manifold ( if you can afford it get the Wagner RS2 Evo manifold ), RS2 injectors or 630cc ones that pop up on here for cheap.

Downpipe either RS2 or 3" downpipe from the link URquattro-island provided.

034 downpipe is not a good fit on the S2 as it's designed for american cars.

RS2 intercooler or ebay big special and x member from Bo, alternative is the new intercooler from Wagner.

If you want over 400 budget for a new fuel pump as well.

Just bought steves Greens (£175) and have RS2 exhaust manifold on already with 7a inlet and outlet!

Was waiting for Carstens rather excellent looking IC but another 45 days

044 pump, they are about £200?

getting a 2nd hand RS2 turbo is that not dodgey as maybe be shagged and would end up with a recon which could be expensive. any problems with 034`s hybrid rs2?

      Thanks

I slapped an RS2 Turbo on and have 3" DP etc pushing about 310bhp, need to pull my finger out and get the RS2 injectors,IC etc..

what sort of power could i get with & without RS2or wagner exhust mani? (in other words, how much more than if i was running stock S2 mani?)

Not sure myself but would for sure give you a better flow and possibly 10% more .. will leave the figs to the experts ..

The 034 replica needs new oil and water lines as it's a garret centre it's not a straight fit afaik, can't get on the 034 website to verify.

Get about 320-325 out of stock EM, wouldn't advise it though as it runs hot!

RS2 and RS2 EM your talking 360-380 bhp

I'm building my car for a 3071, exhaust, inlet, internals etc. It's all overkill for a remapped k24 but it makes everything more efficient so you do getr more out of it. Exhaust makes a big difference. That money would by an exhaust and a new IC, possibly even an RS2 exhaust manifold. That's what I'd spend my money on, leave the turbo till last so you get exactly what you want.

Have been looking at piston heads and when I think what I have spent, 2k on car plus £2500 so far sorting some issues and some upgrades that £4500. Value of car? not sure.

So love the S2 lots but then I see S4 avants for 6 to 8 k on piston heads and think Bi turbo - 350 bhp straight of the bat, newer motors etc.... and wonder do I sell my S2 contribute the £1500 and hang on for a peach?

Its a question that maybe a few concider

the S2`s are sooooooooooo addictive but when you way up what you could easily spend why not just upgrade the whole car and be done with it and get a bunch of more recent technolgy, bits etc thrown in for good measure... doing my nut in trying to decide.

                  What do you think?

itll cost more than 1500 mate.

                          id go.

                          garret turbo or similar.
wagner cast or tubular T3 flange.
                          3" full system from corey
                          550cc injectors
                          VEMS

i may be biased slightly on some items but ill try to explain why.

taking a garret gives you lots of options. they have in general a more modern design and are cheaper. they are also more or less bulletproof. mine is a Precision SC61. basically a non BB gt35/40. take a T3 flange and look for a manifold that will support a T3.

i have a wagner tubular and think its great for 400hp but will do a lot more. 400 is towards the top of a rs2 design manifold also and heat generation due to lack of flow starts here.

i have a full 3" system from Corey. its the best made system i have ever seen.

taking 550cc injectors give a fair degree of overhead. take 650cc if you want to scope ofr 500hp. buying once is cheaper.

Im a VEMS runner. i like mapping and have done for several years. id do a vems because its practically plug and play and 2 remaps will be the price of a VEMS.

taking the setup i had. (rough costs)

                          tubular £300
                          sc61 £399
                          vems £bout 800
                          injectors £120
3" in fitting around the 1500 mark maybe just over. thats for changing the turbo and manifold too.

expect around 380hp with boost from 3300-3500 onwards. i made 321 and 325lbsft atr 5000 on the standard injectors.

my goal is around the 600 mark but its fairly easy to do in stages too.

                            Sound advice....

Vems sounds great but dont really understand what it is, bar a self mapping software / hardware maybe and what about chip sets required ( have MTM strage 1 on at the mo) ?

                            Corey 3" for sure ....

Do you know what CC greens are?

Forgot to mention that I have RS2 EM and 7a inlet outlet on already.

                            So basically

                            Greens - £200 ish
                            Scats adviseable - £250 ish
                            Rs2 Shells - £?
                            3" Corey £1000
                            Gt3071 + lines + hose $1700
                            044 Pump $375
                            VEms - £800

                            Plus odds £200

                            So that about 3k .....

I reckon then that immediate fun is

                            Greens £175
                            RS2 turbo recon - £480
                            Corey 3" - 1k
                            RS2 IC £300

Takes me over a TAD but on the right track and wont necesseraly need to change skats as standards should be ablem to handle this?

                            Stash more bucks ....

                            Sell the RS2 turbo

                            Buy Gt3071 + wagner EM
Look into get uprated Skats in ...

                            What do you think?

I'd forget the turbo upgrade until you've seen the state of the engine if your fitting new rods. If your block needs to be rebored then thats £500 for pistons alone

You also need to factor in £250-300 for balancing the rod and crank and that again if you need a rebore for the large pistons.

For you budget keep it simple get the basic in place and then add the cherry on top last i.e the turbo.

I'm not sold on vems for a sub 500 bhp car one remap should sort it and it's fit and forget. One MRC remap and it's over, the thing with aftermarket ecu's are they are great but you have to spend time getting it right.

Let me break it down for you like this

S2avant, stock bottom end ( to my knowledge ) 3 inch exhaust, RS2 turbo, RS2 manifold, RS2 injectors, RS2 intercooler and MRC Generic high boost chips

                              0-60 in 4 seconds
                              12.8 1/4 mile time

You can get the performance without buying the best bits of the shelf.

This was the route I was going and I was told by everyone that had done it the RS2 route is fun and practical.

But I sold it all and have gone for a spec a touch above yours and it's hassle.

Less hassle = more driving time.
