Advice an options for my next upgrade - suggestions please
just to add, that for a car using stock dual mass flywheels with different rods+pistons,if the rods are not off, then there is no need to rebalance for a car that wont go above 600hp.Again PKmotorsport has built a 650hp S2 without needing balancing.
I didnt balance mahle pistons and scat rods with stock crank and flywheel.Car is running smoothly
I'd forget the turbo upgrade until you've seen the state of the engine if your fitting new rods. If your block needs to be rebored then thats £500 for pistons alone
You also need to factor in £250-300 for balancing the rod and crank and that again if you need a rebore for the large pistons.
For you budget keep it simple get the basic in place and then add the cherry on top last i.e the turbo.
I'm not sold on vems for a sub 500 bhp car one remap should sort it and it's fit and forget. One MRC remap and it's over, the thing with aftermarket ecu's are they are great but you have to spend time getting it right.
Let me break it down for you like this
S2avant, stock bottom end ( to my knowledge ) 3 inch exhaust, RS2 turbo, RS2 manifold, RS2 injectors, RS2 intercooler and MRC Generic high boost chips
0-60 in 4 seconds
12.8 1/4 mile time
You can get the performance without buying the best bits of the shelf.
This was the route I was going and I was told by everyone that had done it the RS2 route is fun and practical.
But I sold it all and have gone for a spec a touch above yours and it's hassle.
Less hassle = more driving time.
Sounds like reasonale buck + RS2 upgrade that is about 350 bhp = as you say fun and drive time ...
then if the need is great then go for the skats and GT3071?
