You do hear about dodgy/dirty MAF contacts from time to time...
Maybe worth buzzing them out from MAF to ECU with a multimeter whilst an assistant moves the MAF cable/loom around. The pinout info is at S2central.net - there's only a handful of contacts relevant to the MAF but you'll need a suitable probe to get into the ECU connector without damaging it.
You could also try hooking up a voltmeter to the MAF output wire - somewhat sturdily so you can watch it for dropouts as you drive. Again more info on s2central.net as to expected values on idle, a blip and beyond.Paul Nugent

Or do some datalogging runs with VAGCOM on the 'LOAD' data coming from the MAF - if you see that hopping about out of whack then it also points at a dodgy cable (or MAF itself even).
Is the Lambda probe fresh ?
Have you checked water and air temp sensors yet ? How to on those here, s2central or SJM...Paul Nugent

the possibility of the maf plug causing such problems is well detailed in many threads scattered through the forum, whether the pins in the maf block or connector are loose or have contamination , the effect of latent heat on the maf connector etc, etc, , I always try to reseat the connector every few weeks, and give the connector a clean 2 or 3 times a year with your favourite brand of electrical contact cleaner..Comment

I've 00561. Also I had few times boost cutouts and fault 00544 was in, but that hapend only 4 times or so and got away. I gues that 544 was caused by leak in intercooler. Now I cannot get away from this 561
p.s. There is another thing that I've noticed yesterday. When flooring the car (WOT) and after I take off my foot from pedal @ high rpm, I can feel a little bit like a short pull.. seems like its overfueling or something else is too much or too less and when the throtle gets closed it somehow gets to normals. Sounds maybe weird.
p.p.s And yes.. on WOT boost gauge goes up to 1.1bar, then I can feel like the car jerks a little little bit and after then boost drops down to 0.8-0.9bar (overboost protect?). As I know, ABY shold keep boost up to ~1.2bar for several secs, but I've never seen it on my car more than a sec.
Ideas?Last edited by max_s2; 9 September 2008, 15:33.Comment

Fuel filter brand new, fuel pump changed & tested. There was ~2l/min in idle (from that line that goes back to fuel tank) - so far seems ok.
I gues that it was bad idea to mention that fault code 544 no more comes up
..half hour ago I was driving home and floored in 3d gear starting from 1500-2000rpm.. wahh.. cut-off by ECU @ 0.5+ bar and fault 544 got in. Damn it
Btw.. I've strange feeling that there is something wrong with coils or POS'es. Could this make 544 and 561 faults go into ECU?
p.s. I'll be doin conversion to 1.8T coils this month. Maybe it will solve my weird problems.Comment

Is there a possibility of getting that 00561 code when car is cold?I took a peak at the codes yesterday on my car,but it was cold and got the 561 code as well as 531 (lamda control).I have no issues with running problems though.Only occasionally which i erase the 561 code and car goes back to normal...Comment
