dreaded cracks around rad bleed screw

    Hi

I have been experiencing signs of coolant leaking around the brass bleed screw. Discovered that the washer was completely corroded away. Seems like I may have overtightened as there are now 2 cracks running away from the bleed screw.

Is there a remedy - even short term - or do I need to replace the rad?
Are the more robust aftermarket rads or will the oem do?

    Thanks

BTDT Try polyurethane tape applied round the threads before tightening with new washer. Commercial grade "super glue " in the crack(s) - might hold if theyre not too dirty. Rad replacement i right PITA - esp if you have A/con.

I've had the top outlet hose as rob said just fall off, the spare rad wasn't much better so I used a mix of loctite and chemical metal and it held, tbh tho i'd suggest getting a new rad.

May have to try a "McGyver" for a while until I can source a new rad

there are some brand new old stock OEM 'laeneger and reich' rads suitable for a S6 on ebay at the moment,i bought one the other day.£35 or best offer, obviously the post will bump that up but i should think audi would charge £200+ for one?!?!

Mine has small cracks too, and a slow leak. Funny thing is its been like that for about five years, and i know if i even attempt to undo the bleed screw it will fall apart, best to leave well alone and get a repalcement rad IMO.
