@Jeffer: the problem isn't HP but torque, the stock rods are rated for about 550-600Nm but if you make 700 HP and 400 Nm they will work just fine.

600Nm means about 2.2 Bar boost at about 3500 RPM....

Ive been searching around different companies for a few days now, am looking at doing the RS2 upgrade on my car or with a hybrid version and i have come across this.

MD147 High flow K27 “Super Back” Compressor wheel, K27 modified compressor cover and seal plate assembly, 360 degree thrust bearing, modified watercooled bearing housing, left hand thread twin seal shaft & wheel assembly with cut back turbine blades. Recommended maximum boost level is 28 P.S.I.
Horsepower achieved: 404bhp 485ft lbs torque

what i want to know is how this compares with the OE RS2 turbo and if it will bolt straight on with out having to fit induction kits because of lack of space or new oil/water pipe work and the like.

      thanks again.

Suspect that will only fit on the 'sport' manifold - not the RS2 one.

Also the K27 is a big old beasty - I don't think it would fit with standard airbox etc. Reckon on more lag than with RS2 turbo but the upside would be greater top end performance. It should indeed be up for well over 400bhp with the correct mods and s/w.

Depends on wether you need the high end power of the K27 at the loss of low-mid range torque, plus the K27 is a more complex and costly install (versus RS2 bolt on).

IIWY - I'd go for tried and trusted RS2 territory for several reasons :

        1. Certified by Audi & Porsche so can't be a bad start !

        2. Best compromise between low end torque and high end power when properly mapped. Bigger turbos have peak torque higher up the revs so aren't as tractable for daily driving.

        3. Straight bolt on from the Audi parts bin

        4. Insurance companies will treat you nicer when you say you have an RS2 engine (get a garage report to certify the mods) rather than saying you've bolted on a huge turbo and got another 200bhp from the original !

        Just me tuppence worth...

        Cheers,

        Paul

yup im still testing the water at the moment.

Just spoken to AET turbo's who can supply the RS2 one or an RS2 hybrid, both of which are at the same price.

Called my insurance who ive got 2months with and basically said stick that on matey and we will cancel your policy!! lol.

Be a couple of months til it can be fitted and new insurance can be found.

anyway AET make a K26/K27 Hybrid which they recommend and believe this is quite a common upgrade also, has anyone carried this one out? apoparently its supposed to be a good compromise between performanc and lag.

whats the lag, mid range etc etc like?

was it a straight bolt on fit?

at moment im still swaying towards a standard RS2 turbo but will see.

Greg - If I was you I would be swayed to getting a RS2 Hybrid or another bolt-on-to-RS2-manifold turbo. You will always want more.

If there is another turbo that is a straight replacement for the RS2 and gives more power 380/390 then I would be keen to try that.
