How many psi is the aux radiator pressure tested for? can I turn it into an oilcooler

    Hi guys..

I been working on the car alot and I was thinking about a potential solution for an oil cooler. I have the stock aby setup but the oil cooler is really in bad shape. I have two main radiators, ones a Nissen with metal end tanks that I picked up today at the junkyard for $50 and is in like new condition. The other is an oem unit. I figure at some point I will take the oem one to this place called luther welding and have them make me a custom alluminum one. But in the process of all this radiator thinking I thought what am I going to do with the aux radiator? Well Mines the shorter one, than stock s2s. I can do a 180 with it and mount it backwards putting the inlet and outlet on the air box side of the car, shorten the pipes and add weld on fitting.

But could it handle the pressure of the oil???? I Think it would be in a perfect spot for getting air. Plus the fact that it's new and hasn't seen coolant and since I spent the money getting it I mind as well put it to use if possible.

    That is thy question.

    Thanks
    Josh

Parts come on and off.. Lots of test fitting, replacing, trial and error.

      Hey Josh,
You probably could, but remember oil runs a lot hotter than water does. Don't know if those plastic end tanks could take the hear. An inexpensive solution is to get an air conditioning core out of a car. Not the one in front of the radiator, but the one inside the HVAC unit.

You can usually pick one up for a few bucks from a Pick ur part place. You just have to re-brazen the inlet and outlet lines.

I used one my truck for a transcooler and used one on my aircooled VW. I ended up having to put a thermostat on the VW, because it ran too cold.

Those units are all aluminum and will take any kind of pressure you want to throw at them. Depending upon what size you want, depends on the size of the car you want to take it out of. The smaller the car the smaller the core size.

I was thinking of getting another one myself, except I am going to put it drivers side fender well. Ever since I installed the S2 bumper, I eliminated the headlight washers. Without the tank in the fender well there is all kinds of room.

      Just a thought.

Details here , although I'm going to move it from there to a lower location when I do the engine swap, decided I don't like it there now.

Evaporator sounds like a good idea. AC system run at about 10-14 bar ish, so they should cope with high temps and pressure.

Thats a damn good idea, may even think about doing that one myself.

                  Some options:

I believe those first two pics are of an audi diesel oil cooler with fan.
Thats how it comes from the factory.

The next pic is a dual oil cooler setup.

I am starting to think of options.

                  Thanks

So who can get one of those diesel setups used?
what about prices new? From what I read vag has a swap deal on those oil coolers. 30pounds +- I think for a new one with swap of the old one.

At least thats what it says at euro-car-parts.com

I've been looking into fitting this setup but can't find dimensions for the cooler. From the look of it it's bigger than the ABY version. If so you could probably get away without the fan.

It's not an exchange part from VAG though.

You could add the ducting as well:
