    Frankenstien Wastegate Screw Setup

Looking at a frankenstein WG setup. Anyone know the thread of hte WG adjuster screw? Or the length of screw that will fit in there. Not having the car means I can't check.

I've seen a few which either use some threaded bar or a bolt with the head cut off. Did people get the nose of the bolt turned down to replicate the original bolt? If anyone can knock something up then please let me know.

I'd prefer that, that's what has been done to my wastegate.

Ofcourse with a bar easier to adjust though.

Yeah, want to have a play and see how it works, thinking is that having it at the limit might P off the ECU, having it so that the ECU still does some work might help matters...

Have a play to see how far you can go before dem homefries complain about it... There is some scope for additional mechanical boost assistance - I've just never characterised it. I do have a spare WG that I want to play with on this - be interesting to see if we get the same results.

I can tweak the turbo map for a stiffer WG spring if you like...

Without giving to much away Paul, what has to be tweaked?

Mine's already been played with me to see if it sorted a fluttering that happens at max boost. It didn't solve the problem. Need to finish it off. If I can get more mechanical boost then all good. Will make boost onset more aggressive. Tweaked map would of course be better that hit and hope...

yeah i wound mine in a little from where it started off once paul and mihnea had mapped it and it is a tad better but only a seat of the pants thing really. Wind it all the way in and then start unwinding till you find a setup your happy with... what flexibility is there with the WGFV as pretty much at 95% duty cycle if you're on boost anyway isn't it?

Personally I set mine by disconnecting the WGFV and then doing a WOT run to determine baseline boost on the boost gauge. I tried mine at 0.6bar with no noticeable effects. Changing the map so you can set the base boost to say 0.9bar is an interesting idea. Better onset but less safety... Isn't this what superchips did

Steady now - Superchips is ALL spring and no software... Going to say 0.8bar spring is indeed less safe than 0.4bar, but in theory the K24 should be able to safely eat that all day - even on the redline so its arguably safe enough... All about those compromise decisions - you have to decide where you want to sit on the pendulum of ultimate performance vs best safety from the engine point of view.

Am I right in saying that 0.6bar is about as much mechanical boost as the factory spring will muster when wound in fully ?

If so then a stiffer spring (rated for 1.8bar) will give you that 0.8bar mechanical baseline - then I'll need to dilute the WGFV map to suit.

                        50mm long 12mm X 1.25 thread pitch metric bolt

0.9 Bar with the wgfv disconnected is what Mihnea does, much better spoolup and still well safe.

Andy, I could machine the perch end of the screw on the Myford if you like and maybe drill the other end for a bar. You need to lock the bolt off really though or they can unscrew themselves.
