arp headstuds. what did you torque to.

I have arp's in my engine. i torqued to the recommended setting.

in the 16v engines this was usually upped by about 10-15lbsft.

i used the standard arp rating and the gasket is seeping ever so slightly and maybe the head is lifting a little under high load.

whats the findings of other arp users. do you go above the recommended.

i recollect an issue with a raceport head on a mk1 fiesta Xr2 and a local expect said ignore and go to "FT".

The ARP headstud torque rating was way more than FT when I did mine.

I followed the 034 website which states 95 ft/lb IIRC

        From Motorgeek

Torque in factory sequence in 3 steps: 20, 60, and 95ft/lbs using the moly grease.

Newt on here will be able to confirm

95lbs/ft sounds way to high to me. From memory i did mine in three stages up to a max of 60lbs/ft heat cylcled it and re torqued (due to not being stretch bolts)

Get the correct torque befor you do it, you will damage the head beyond repair if you crack/squash it..

My bad, Stroker ones are higher at 95 ft/lb http://www.034motorsport.com/product...128afb9ea4b1fc

Javad posted for 220mm block - 65 ft/lbs will do, work your way up in 3 steps (say 20, 40, 65), in the factory sequence.
NOTE - do NOT tighten and loosen between each step, you should only tighten studs in progression, not tighten/loosen/tighten, etc (I've actually heard of someone doing this, why I even mentioned it).

95 Ft/Lbs is for the M12 studs used on the Tdi / stroker block, the std 20V ARP studs are 65 Ft/Lbs in 3 stages.

Finally got moving on putting my head on last night. I'm using an NG head on an mc2 bottom end with an s4 metal hg. Studs are finger tight in the block. I know i've seen this discussed before but i cant find the topic. ARP has some recomended torque values listed with the stud kit? What numbers...

Does ARP stud kit still have those small washers? Replace them with ½ inch diameter ones, if yes.

One can know, if the washers are the small ones, simply by comparing to original bolt washers. ARP washers -at least used to, be significantly smaller.

I believe the SQ washers are the ones that most folk use with the ARP studs. I left the ARP washers on and haven't had any problems. The head will be coming off soon, so we can see if they've bitten into the head.

It will be wise to check after the engine has warmed up and retighten if required

The washers on the eurovan ( Stroker kit ) are larger than OEM washers, don't know about the standard ones but think you still need the SQ washers according to "Chef"

                            Changing washers on studs

                            Hi guys
Needing some advice, fitted arp studs when I rebuilt rs2 engine, used the arp washers as did not know any better, torques to 65 lbs/ft, think I may have an issue with head lifting under sustained high boost as has been loosing a little water when running this way, engine has done 4 K since rebuild, steel cr dropping gasket, 1.8 bar boost water is coming from header tank not gasket

I want to check nut torque on the studs but want to change the washers at the same time, is it ok to do this 1 by 1 as I do not want to damage the head by washers biting into the head, any advice welcome

I have that exact same issue Paul My stud kit states 85Ft/lb but I used 65 as stated on here many times. I have since upped to 75 on a re-torque and it is improved slightly but I think I will have to goto 85 ft/lb. I am using the sport q washers. (My engine has done 4k since rebuild also )
