Paul, as a guy with Homefries who already gets 30mpg on 95 unleaded
    - yes I've been called a boring old f*rt on here already - I'm not that interested in an "economy mode" given you've already created that but am happy to offer myself for beta testing in the spirit of helping out.

My vote is for more power

count me in 4 a switchable solution ABY

I'll definitely want this too. I have 2 different chips at hand and I would like to change.
Does anyone here have a wastegate spring from an early Ur-Quattro? One of the chipsets should run better with that. I am also interested in an economic friendly chipset. Paul, do you have an idea about pricing including shipping outside the EU (Switzerland)?

Paul, You & Si reminded me to comment on just how much fun I had last night out in the cold (-8). The cold air let me pull full boost all the way up to 7000 without any of the protection mechanisms coming in - wonderful, such a great feeling, enjoy whilst the cold lasts!

I knew the intercooler was important but this weather really shows that.

No way you saw 'max boost' at 1.4bar levels into 7000rpm - unless you have some sticky WGFV or other problem. I suspect what you felt is the benefit of optimal ignition advance in the cold air and just the fact that cold/dense air always brings more power... The ABY actually runs less boost in cold air to counteract that effect - giving same performance whatever the weather - and thats what I've removed in the latest brew. Wait for the grin of 1.5bar in sub-zero air hits you - its fantastic...

This trick is necessary to get benefit from bigger / better intercoolers on a homefried ABY as they previously followed the factory convention. Notably on the RS2, however, a similar trick is used.

7A could easily get the same 'multimode' treatment but for now the 7A is bottom of the list. I doubt I'll get doing anything serious on that until late into 2Q09.

Your ECU's tour of duty is ending today Paul. Winter mode is indeed nice, the bum dyno & old GTech both approved The addition of a map that limits enthusiasm is worth IIR £50 to me I guess, this could also be LPG friendly as you don't want 1.5 Bar on some of the more basic LPG setups @ WOT. I'll need to either sort a new GTech or get mine on the RR with the current setup and then it means that I can be more scientific about any gains.

Switchable 7A chip is already available from Patrick Carlier in Belgium. Used it on my 7A before fitting the 3B last year. Send a PM if interested and will give you his e-mail so you can ask him about it directly, he has several dyno plots too the best result being 190bhp..though mine only achieved this after the larger MAF upgrade.

Am interested in a switchable 3B map. Ideally a normal homefry map for 95octane and another for tesco 99 octane or simiar would be ideal...

The 7A chip is very easy to make switchable - just need time to create a good / safe upgrade map for it... Mostly ignition tweaks I should think (it will need good fuel for best gains) and maybe a tweak on full load fuelling. Not sure what the V6 MAF upgrade entails in terms of 7A software. Can't get my head into it now.

Think I might have had one of these for my old type 7A. Shame because I couldn't swap it to the newer style. It had one map for 95, one for 98 ron fuel and was designed to work in conjunction with the 034 injector upgrade. Worked quite well from what I could tell.

Just remembered - there is some bizarre checksum in the 7A chip that I tried and failed so far to crack after analysing a few 7A chipsets that have so far crossed my path... Very different to Bosch technique. I need to resolve that before any 7A chippings.

What microcontroller does the Hitachi ECU use? If you can tell me that, I may be able to help.

So is that the reason I am only seeing approx 1bar in overboost at the mo Mr Central. Seem to e getting approx .8bar and up to 1bar on the overboost. Is it due to the cold air as you mentioned earlier???? Or is it another problem??

                                Great idea Paul.
I know Mihnea has been able to do this for some time, so I was going to take advantage of this for my eventual setup. 2 or more sport modes for me, One basic for anytime of year and any fuel, and others for better fuel, WI. I also seem to remember Doug's car behaved differently with maps for less boost/more timing and more boost/less timing.

Exactly. It's how you use this in it in your overall journey. If your going downhill with a junction/sharp corner coming up then engine braking is the key. But if you have clear road/uphill/Skoda to overtake ahead then rolling in neutral is the way to go to maintain a good speed.
